York won the face-off and started off the first quarter strong, scoring three goals in quick succession. Lancaster’s goalie defended well against a first attempt at a fourth point, but York successfully intercepted the ball and managed a fourth point soon after. Strong marking from York built a difficult defense that Lancaster found break through. Lancaster was allowed a penalty shot due to contact, but failed to score. While trying to pass the ball around the back of the goal to bring it back over towards the Lancaster side, the ball went out of bounds. York got the ball, but Lancaster was able to intercept. After some back and forth, York committed a foul, giving Lancaster a penalty shot. The York goalie defended well, and Lancaster failed to score a point. Using this as an opportunity, York scored a 5th point almost immediately after. Lancaster received a free shot due to contact, but two York defenders formed a tight defense against it. Neither team managed to score another point before time was called.
Score after first quarter: 5-0 to York
Almost immediately, once they were back on the field, York secured another point quickly, but while trying for a seventh, they missed the goal, and it went out of bounds. Lancaster got possession of the ball but was unable to score. York’s goalie blocked the free shot, and York managed to get the ball back across the field and score another goal immediately. The draw reset, and York scored two more goals. York’s tenth goal is skillful, occurring mid-dodge between two Lancaster players. Breaking for a quick team huddle. York was prevented from scoring another goal, and Lancaster gained possession. York’s goalie once again blocked another attempt at a goal. The next two goals by York were quick and clean, with the twelfth goal being shot through a narrow gap. Score after second quarter:14-0 to York
After a deserved break at halftime, Lancaster and York entered the pitch with renewed spirits. Lancaster quickly attempted a goal, but York blocked it well. York and Lancaster went back and forth slightly with attempts at goal from both teams, ending with York scoring their first goal of the quarter. Lancaster’s more aggressive approach in this quarter has worked well in their favor, with them having more possession of the ball throughout the quarter. It began to rain shortly after, and the teams refused to let it slow them down. York played carefully to protect their lead, creating space and passing back rather than solely driving towards the goal. Lancaster manages their first goal, boosting the crowd’s spirits. One of York’s defenders received a yellow card, and York was down a defender, but managed to score another goal regardless. After another two York goals, the teams had a quick huddle. A long battle for the ball leads to two more goals from Lancaster. This quarter showed a real comeback from Lancaster, especially considering the rain. York ended the quarter with another goal, scored through a penalty.
Score after third quarter: 19-3 to York
Lancaster attempted to score with a penalty shot, but York’s goalie blocked it well. Shortly after the next draw, York manages a clean goal, bringing the score up to 20-3. Lancaster got another penalty soon after, but the shot was intercepted by York, allowing York to score another goal by running it back down the pitch. Another back-and-forth ensued with attempts from both teams; however, York emerged with the final goal. Holding their lead of 22-3, York finished the game strong with no more goals made in the last four minutes of the game.
