Sport Socials and Training Recommence

Football, rugby, netball and golf societies around the university have announced pub crawls this week.

As lockdown eases, the reopening of pubs allows college sport social evening to recommence along with all other societies.

After a painful wait, UoY sports members will be looking forward to hitting the town to quench their thirst. The sun is out and I think every student around the country has a pint on their minds…or two. Sport’s teams are be restricted to staying in a maximum group of six as COVID-19 restrictions remain.

Along with this, members can also expect a return to training with Campus East football colleges being allotted a weekly slot on the York Sport 3G pitch.

Although captains will look to divide individual college teams as much as possible as a means to follow government regulations,  Football, rugby, netball and golf societies around the university have announced pub crawls this week. So don’t be surprised to see a herd of students swarming to your local.

I spoke with Ciaran Matthews; the treasurer of the University Golf Club:

It is unfortunate that inter university competitions under BUCS have not been able to go ahead this year. However, since returning to Golf after lockdown we have been able to organise social golf every Wednesday at Fulford where we play friendly competitions within UYGC. Luckily, Fulford GC had put up a large gazebo on the terrace area of which UYGC has been able to take advantage of after social golf to have drinks as a society. We have plans for Socials to start going ahead as usual at Forest and other outside bars aswell

It is yet to be announced when college competitive sport will be reintroduced. But the University hope to be able to have their free-flowing competitive leagues recommencing before the end of the academic year.

Until then… pub anyone?
