The competition was as loud as it was fiercely contested, with barely a lull between attempts. From the first lift to the final barbell drop, the atmosphere stayed electric. Much of that came from a relentlessly upbeat commentator, who kept the momentum going throughout, calling every lift with intensity, building anticipation before each attempt, and making sure the crowd stayed engaged whether the weight flew up or had to be ground out.

Lancaster’s depth ultimately proved decisive, with consistent performances across categories allowing them to build and maintain a strong lead. Among the most eye-catching moments was Arran Jones’ effortless-looking 205kg lift, a display of control and strength that drew an audible reaction from the crowd and set the tone for Lancaster’s dominance.

York, however, also had plenty of reason to celebrate! In fact, one of the meet’s most significant milestones belonged to them: an all-women’s podium, which the York Barbell team celebrated as “the first time in living memory.” It marked a major achievement for the club and highlighted the growing strength and competitiveness of their women’s squad.  Amelia Cook impressed with a solid 145kg lift, while Sophie Morton went even heavier with a commanding 170kg, both contributing to a memorable showing. Georgia Craig also delivered a confident 130kg lift, adding to the day’s strong individual performances.

Despite York’s standout individual and women’s team successes, Lancaster’s consistency across categories ultimately secured them the win.
