A unique sound installation. An exhibition from award-winning artists. Tour York’s historic streets. The 2022 Aesthetica Film Festival is about more than film. Their Fringe Events are some of the most exciting new additions to the 12th edition of the festival, designed to offer incredible new experiences and develop meaningful connections to York at its largest cultural event of the year.

Unite. Create. Transform.: Creative Expression at Street Life

1-30 November

Art has the power to unite – be part of it at Street Life Hub. For their first Fringe Event, Aesthetica have partnered with Street Life Hub to develop Unite. Create. Transform., an exhibition of nine artworks from award-winning contemporary artist. Creativity is a form of expression, a way to convene, discuss and make sense of the present moment.

Explore art from Kit Monkman, Jenn Nkiru, Natalia Garciá Clark, Omar Torres and Seb Agnew, amongst others, and discover the transformative power of art. Be transported to new places and introduce yourself to new cultures and be reminded of our collective humanity. This exhibition also includes a new commission premiere, a site-specific work that looks at identity politics framed around body image.

Sounds Installation

1 November 12:00-20:00 | 2 and 3 November 10:30-20:00 | 4 November 10:30-17:00

If you’re looking for a unique experience, discover sounds you’ve never heard before with a premiere from one of the UK’s most exciting sound artists. Aesthetica have worked with Audible and London College of Communication to commission new work by Jin Chia Ching Ho, who’s meditative soundscapes provide a truly immersive escape.

Located at York’s 600-year-old Bedern Hall, this installation presents the audio of five natural materials: metal, wood, water, fire and earth. These elements are fundamental to the foundation of material things and the natural balance in Chinese philosophy. Sit or lie on one of the cushions provided and listen deeply in these one-hour daily performances.

York City Tours

5-6 November at 11:30, 13:00 and 15:00
