York to Launch Emergency Student Support Fund & Drop Accommodation Costs

In the most recent Covid-19 update, the Vice Chancellor Charlie Jefferey outlined new ways for students to receive financial aid.

Starting 5pm tomorrow (Wednesday 25 March 2020), students can now apply for financial support of up to £500 (per applicant) for students facing unforeseen financial challenges.

Any fully-registered student is eligible to apply. Applications will close 5pm Wednesday 1 April 2020.

Additionally, students paying for University accommodation may cancel their contracts for Summer Term.

This is for students who have gone home or taken residence elsewhere to self-isolate. Students would cease to be charged from Week 1 Summer Term, Tuesday 14th April.

Notwithstanding, campus accommodation continues to remain open.

Details outlining online teaching and assessment were promised to be sent out by the end of the week.

The University’s Open Door, Student Hub, Disability, and College support teams will remain available to students, remotely.
