Some University of York staff are set to go on strike for ten days later this term, as the University and College Union claims staff are at “breaking point”.

Members of the UCU across the country are in disputes with employers, including the University of York, over “pensions & pay, unsafe workloads, casualisation and equality failings”.

Staff will walk out from 14-18 February (Week 6), 21-22 February (start of Week 7) and 28 February – 2 March (start of Week 8).

The National Union of Students has planned action which will coincide with the final day of staff strikes.

68 institutions across the UK are taking part in the staff strikes, predicted to impact more than one million students.
The UCU says strike action could still be averted if employers meet and resolve the disputes which would include a £2.5k pay increase for all staff.

Union members walked out on the final three days of last term (1-3 December).

The UCU says staff are “at breaking point after a decade of cuts to pensions, falling pay and worsening working conditions”.
