University of York Student Dies after Entering the River Ouse

A University of York student has died after entering the River Ouse in the early hours of Wednesday morning. 

The body of 19-year-old Evan Geoffrey d’Andilly from Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire was discovered by police divers in the river at around 11:45 am on Wednesday.

A spokesperson of North Yorkshire Police said: “they [his family] do not wish to issue a statement at this time. We ask that their privacy is respected while they grieve the loss of their loved one.”

North Yorkshire Police have said there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

The police have appealed for any witnesses or those with CCTV or dashcam footage to get in contact. 

York Vision reached out to the University of York for comment.

They said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened by the death of Evan and our thoughts are with his family and friends.

“This is also very upsetting news for our community and we are providing support to staff and students affected by Evan’s tragic death.”
