University of York Strikes are Set to Continue, as Staff are Still Set to Face a 35% Cut to Their Pensions

Strikes which started on the final three days of the winter term will now stretch into the week following the end of Spring term with staff walking out from Monday the 21st to Friday the 25th of March.

In an email to students the Vice Chancellor, Charlie Jeffrey said he was “sorry to have to share
this news with you”.

Alongside the strike action, the action short of a strike (ASOS) will continue and finish no later than
Tuesday the 3rd of March.

ASOS will consist of staff only working their contracted hours and not volunteering to do more
out of goodwill.

Charlie Jeffrey went on to express that he does “not think that industrial action is the answer to
the current disputes” after the “upheaval” faced by students.

The UCU York Twitter account however has renamed itself “UCU Uni of York is ashamed of the
Uni of York VC” tweeting that “The Uni of York VC can crawl into his hole”.

For students the VC’s priority remains, “to review the impact and make arrangements to
mitigate this wherever possible, including rescheduling teaching, providing complementary
teaching, supporting learning in other ways and making adjustments to assessments”.
