Charlie Jeffrey has announced that a new COVID-19 testing centre will be built and begin operating on Campus West this week.

The new walk-through facility is an addition to the existing testing provisions for the City of York and will be in a managed area in the Wentworth Way car park.

From October 1st, it will be open 7 days a week, from 8am to 8pm, on an appointment-only basis. If you have symptoms of COVID-19, a test can be booked through the NHS COVID-19 app, the NHS website, or by calling 119.

This news was announced in a recent email from the Vice-Chancellor. In the same email, he addressed the fears generated by the media coverage of the consequences of COVID-19 outbreaks in UK universities.

In response to the potential impact of safety measures on the Christmas holidays, he stated, “We would like to assure you…we will do all we can to enable students to get home”.

This reassurance comes after the news that around 40 UK universities have reported cases of COVID-19, with thousands of students self-isolating in a situation described by unions as “shambolic”.

Charlie Jeffrey made it clear that the University is doing everything it can to ensure a continued “smooth and safe return to York”.
