York student reported as car crash victim

CONFUSION HAS ARISEN over the reported passing of a York student following a car accident.

Third-year Halifax student Wang Jiang Ning is thought to have died after the incident in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The University, together with newspapers ‘The Press’ and ‘Nouse’ have reported the student’s details today. ‘The Press’ wrote: “University of York student Wang Jiang Ning, 20, of Garrow Way, York, died in hospital shortly after the accident.”

However, official reports from North Yorkshire Police show that these details have not yet been confirmed. A police spokesman today said: “we are not yet in a position to identify the deceased.”

He added: “Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle prior to the incident.”

So far, the only details confirmed by police are that two women were taken to York District Hospital, where one, a 20-year-old woman died from her injuries a short time later. The second woman, 21, died from her injuries yesterday.

The driver of a Mercedes, a 28-year-old man, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. He is due to appear at York Crown Court on the 7th of December.
