York springs into the new season

Spring is starting to settle in (finally) and York has a whole array of activities and events to kick off the season in style. From shopping to festivals, there’s something for everyone.york_racecourse

If you want to start the festival season early, the racecourse is hosting the YO1 festival on the 5th May. With 5 stages of live music, street food curated by Northern StrEats, a micro ale festival, and alternative entertainment including theatre acts, street magic, and graffiti artists, it’s the perfect way to bring in summer and relax for the last time before the dreaded exam season.

For those who enjoy a vintage touch, there’s York Does Vintage on the 21 April at The Merchant Adventurers’ Hall. For just £1 entry (or 50p with an NUS card) the fair covers everything from clothes and workshops to Lindy Hop dancing. On a larger scale the Festival of Vintage York is going to be taking place on the 27th and 28th of April. Held at the race-course, the event is a celebration of all things from fashion to music in the 1930’s – 60’s, promising to be a lively and fun-packed occasion for those who want to try something a little bit different this month.

And if this isn’t enough fashion for you this April, Saturday the 6th sees the arrival of McArthurGlen’s York Designer Outlet’s Fashion Fling. There are numerous promised discounts and the opportunity to meet Grazia’s Fashion News Editor, Katherine Ormerod, who will be giving one-to-one trend sessions to customers.

But it’s not all about fashion or festivals this season in York – there’s also food! Up until the 14th of April, York’s Chocolate Story , will be holding its very own Easter Antics. The event gives visitors the opportunity to take part in egg decorating classes and see giant Easter eggs being made by hand by skilled Chocolatiers. On top of this, the venue also has an upcoming Chocolate-making Demonstration and Tasting on the 20th and 21st of this month. Perfect for if you have a sweet tooth and want to prolong the joys of Easter for just that little bit longer.

York is blooming with spring spirit, so whether you fancy fashion, festivals or food this season, there is bound to be something to suit you.
