Wentworth College pulled out surprise victory over last term’s champions to get their new year underway with a bang.

The postgrads dominated the match from the off with Ben Keane quickly putting Wentworth into the lead. This was quickly followed by a second when Greg Harrison tried his luck on a long range attempt, the keeper saved but only into the path of a grateful Tim Martin who coolly put away the second.

Wentworth were not content with this margin and quickly pressed on with Martin grabbing his second and Wentworth’s third goal. Although James managed to somewhat stabilise the situation later on in the half they struggled to make the breakthrough, their best chance rebounding agonisingly off the post. However, Martin quickly put the match beyond all doubt before half time with his hat trick, it ended 4-0 at half time.

James had no choice but to come out in the second half with all guns blazing, which they did, but this left them open at the back and Greg Harrison took advantage with a spectacular long range half volley for the fifth. Despite James being more at the races in the second half they couldn’t prevent Wentworth compounding the humiliation with Selhattin Kosunalp scoring the sixth goal.

James did score a consolation late on making the final score 6-1, making it a truly terrible day at the office for James and an absolutely brilliant one for Wentworth.
