York Netball Barbarians display their dominance over Hull in a very exciting match
Captained by York Sport President Candidate, Charlotte Winter, the York Netball Barbarians stepped onto court, only having played together once. However this certainly wasn’t obvious as York began racking up goals right from the off. The shooting pair, Gabbitas and Winter, found their feet quickly and at the end of the first quarter the score was 10-2 York.
Spurred on by the support of UYNC, York went back onto court in high spirits and the standard of play continued into the second quarter. Most notably the, relentless interceptions from Hall and O’Mahoney prevented swift mid court play from Hull, allowing York to take advantage of their mistakes.
Heads seemed to go down on the Hull side with play becoming scrappy and inaccurate.
York showed a solid defence, with them only conceding one goal in the second quarter, making the half time score 17-3.
York didn’t get complacent however, play was rapid in the third quarter and the accurate passing was maintained. This allowed York to dramatically increase the score line to a whopping 40-7 at the end of the third quarter.
York entered the final quarter with an aim to get 50 goals and they were not far off. Carried by amazing support from the crowd York continued to push on, much to Hull’s dismay.
York emerged victorious, the final score York 49-7 Hull. It is clear Winter has managed to put together a very strong side to represent the York Barbarians. She commented that, the team “played amazing” and that she was “so proud of them all!”
