Student fury as campus computers break down

Library_1200Dozens of computers across the University’s main library suffered a temporary break down earlier this morning prompting anger from students.

Groups of undergraduates and postgraduates were seen walking out of the Harry Fairhurst and JB Morrell buildings following the outage at roughly 00.40 this morning.

And there are reports that hundreds of computers across campus may have been affected.

But it is currently not known what caused the break down.

A spokesperson for the University’s main campus library apologised for the inconvenience caused as some students feared complete loss of work with looming essay deadlines.

One told Vision: “It was a pretty alarming 30 minutes in all honesty. People didn’t know when they would be able to resume working – or even if their work had been saved.”

It was not until approximately 1.15am when computer access was restored.

“Lots of students went home after twenty minutes of inactivity from the library computers, but those who stayed were able to reboot and start working again at about 1:15,” they added.

It is also understood that internet connections in accommodation rooms were also out, with the University’s IT Services confirming a connection outage lasting an hour from midnight.

  1. Well that’s a lie.
It didn’t start working at 1.15am. I was there until 4am in the attempt to complete an essay and every hour since about 00.40am I asked if it was working. The response was, “I’m afraid not.”

York Vision, learn to write articles that are informative and correct to the facts.

  2. So the library computers were out of action for half an hour at midnight essentially…

    Why is this even news!?!

  3. Are you kidding me? ‘Fury’ for a 30 minute outage at half midnight on a Sunday morning. Sort it out Vision

  4. I was there then, couldn’t have been more than like 20 minutes in HF, people need to learn a small amount of patience if they left because of that…

  5. (anymore)

I’m sorry, have we all moved past the generation of changing the autosave to every 10 minutes and backing up work on USB sticks?

    You kids today.
