Sport Stars Given Cash To Burn

The university has given four of its best athletes a helping hand after establishing a three-year International Athletes Fund worth £6,000 a year.

The initiative, which York Sport President Sam Asfahani has labelled “unprecedented”, will go directly to funding the travel, accommodation and equipment costs of the students. Two of the students are the Fencing Club’s Louise Highton, 22, and Katherine Gracey, 24, who fence for Great Britain and Northern Ireland respectively.

David Tee, 19, represents the England ski team and finished 2nd in the national BUCS Championship last year for skiing. Golfer Charlotte Austwick, also 19, finished as the highest ranked English player in the Scotland Juniors Open in August, achieving 6th place overall.
