Within seconds of the women’ hockey indoor firsts getting underway York score from their third successive short corner. Stalwart Imy Storm found the backboard on her first shot. Before the supporters had even stopped their whooping celebrations. Captain Frankie Hall scored after a series of beautiful passes in open play. Emily Lucas gets the third for York after going one on one with the ‘keeper and emerging the victor, her cheeky flick finished what was a very exciting exchange.

After these quick fire goals it seemed to be a complete walkover for York, however, Lancaster finally got into the game. Their centre midfield scored with a well-timed first touch under ‘keeper Laura Porter. With the score 3-1 to York both teams pushed their play to the next level, with defender Vaila Ormiston being called upon to make many tricky tackles. York remained strong on the attack- Hannah Gage announced her arrival on the pitch with a beautiful flick that just pinged of the post.

Emily Lucas seized her second of the match. Keeping cool in the D, she pulled off a stunning flick over the goalie. Flicks are only allowed in indoor hockey when shooting, something the umpires seemed to be forgetting time after time.

The half time klaxon rang, with the first half firmly in the hands of the white rose Lancaster had to pull something special out of the bag in order to fully compete on York’s level.

The second half started in the same manner of the first- with a short corner awarded to the visitors. They didn’t convert this one due to skilful defending on the line. Their second short corner, however, was another story. Club President and all round hockey legend Faustino scored with a stunning deflection on the line after injecting to Imogen Storm.

Lancaster kept fighting on, forcing Vaila Ormiston to stay alert in defence as they pushed ever closer to the goal. Great shots on goal were saved by Laura Porter in succession. York seemed to become sloppier as the game went on- a testament to the energetic and tiring nature of the match. Frankie Hall was unlucky in the D to miss a goal opportunity.

Lancaster were to get the last goal of the match. Vaila Ormiston stopped a shot at goal only to be tackled over the line. The final score was 5-2 to York, winning the white rose two points.

Women’s indoor captain Frankie Hall stated that she was ‘really pleased especially because they play games week-in week-out in an indoor league. We train all year for this one game, and it is such a great feeling to see it all be paid off and worth all the hard work on the day.’
