ROSES PREVIEW: Kallum Taylor Interview

1) Are you confident playing bowls against the Vice Chancellor of Lancs?

I’ve heard he’s quite the pro at it… But I do like being the underdog here. Nothing to lose, everything to gain!

2) Who do you think will win?

Whoever can better work the weight of their balls.

3) Will you be using similar skills to your football skills?

If you ask any of the Vanbrugh Football Team they’ll likely say that I never favoured the short roll out from my goal. Always liked to punt it up top! Some of those kicks came down with snow on them…. So I think I’ll have to adapt a new approach here.

4) What is Lancaster’s greatest weakness when it comes to bowls?

The fact that they’re expected to win, and it’ll be a complete and utter disaster if me, Koen and Greg can shake it up over the Pennines.

5) And York’s greatest strength?

We’re not afraid to try the audacious.

6) What preparations have you done?

I actually did a little bit of practice on Monday evening behind Hes Hall… Rain stopped play today though sadly. Other than that, I’ve been taking my vitamins and saying my prayers.

7) Bowls or Croquet? Why?

I had a right laugh playing croquet last year. I do get on quite well with Koen though, and Greg’s always good fun, so I’m actually really looking forward to the Bowls this year. Something a little different!

8) Do you have a message for competitors at Roses this year?

If you’re going to the effort of travelling over to Lancaster, then you may as well leave it all on the pitch/court/arena/green and have not a single regret… But with that, do try and enjoy it too, there’s always a quality buzz about the place when Roses takes place.

9) Who do you think will win the baking and why?

I have no idea who’s baking against who, so I’m afraid to comment. I’ve lived on both sides of the Pennines and I’ve appreciated baked goods from both Lancs and Yorkshire.

10) Are you going to Revs on Sunday?

Haha! If we win. If we win… Might have a shandy or two.
