Roses organisers slammed for ‘ignoring’ some sports teams

ROSES Students were outraged at Lancaster University when a Roses women’s rugby poster was put on the side of the tennis team courts.

A Lancaster sports team member posted the photo on the Roses Facebook page for all to see the way, as Laura Louise commented, ‘publicity has been very subjective this year’. “Smaller” teams “feel ignored and displaced” by the way other sports such as rugby are allegedly prioritised over them.

He complained that tennis in Lancaster has zero posters yet brings in a total of 14 points for Roses, all that count toward winning overall and that promotion is saved for the bigger teams such as Football.

Njay Sharpe from Lancaster commented ‘We have a poster of a football player on the hockey astros… it’s not been very well thought through and just makes us look silly.’

Students put forward on the Facebook page that  equal promotion on the actual courts that the poster belongs to should be monitored, to avoid anger from teams that will aid in winning Roses.

Andy Challis, also from Lancaster, had a different view and commented; ‘Rather than complain about the publicity take it upon yourselves to prove a point to LUSU and beat your corresponding York teams in style and also support all the other teams in their games to show your community spirit in the university, that way LUSU will be more inclined to actively publicise for you.’
