Road to Roses: Badminton 2nd’s

After a solid season the Badminton teams will be looking to finish their year in style with victory at Roses. After claiming all 14 points available at last year’s tournament, and with home advantage,  a similar result is surely within reach.

The Men’s second’s side has had a good season, coming third in the table, playing some excellent Badminton in a difficult league.  “We’ve had a decent start in a very competitive league which left little room for mistakes” commented Captain Marc Dickinson. “We have a strong side that I’m confident that we have a team good enough to win the upcoming fixture against Lancaster”. Dickinson identifies fresher’s Rolf Choutan and Jay Lee as players to watch, not just for Roses but for the future.

BADMINTON BUCSThe Women’s seconds had a relatively quiet season, coming 4th in their league with 7 points. However they were unlucky in a number of fixtures, and their final place in the table did not do justice to their   performances. Captain Lucy Rodgers was excited about the team’s prospects for Roses, “The team has had a good season and we were unfortunate not to gain promotion in what was an evenly matched league. Everyone in the team has progressed in terms of their ability and fitness and we have three strong pairs, prepared to beat Lancaster”.

The Mixed team captain Dani Farsiani is also in confident mood ahead of their fixture. “The York mixed teams have had a successful season, despite numerous setbacks due to injury. I’m confident we can perform very strongly at Roses. Morale is high and everyone is very much looking forward to the fixtures as last year’s victory spurred the team on to have a resounding victory”. Another interesting element to the match is the potentially return of former York ladies captain Clare Breare, who may play for the Lancaster side having transferred from York last year.
