‘Rate your shag’ Facebook page draws criticism

rate your shagFacebook page ‘University of York: Rate your shag’ has drawn widespread condemnation for its attempts to ‘Name them, shame them and if you must, praise’ student’s sexual conquests.

The page, set up earlier today, is the latest is a string of university pages that have spread across the country, with this particular incarnation already having appeared at other universities including Bath, Loughborough and Roses rivals Lancaster.

One student, Rhys Hayes commented on the page saying: “I think you ought to be, quite frankly, ashamed of yourselves. Sex is a private affair and to reduce someone to a statistic based on how good they are in bed is not only dehumanising but it is also offensive and an invasion of someones [sic] privacy. Why don’t you go and do something more productive with your life?” Hayes’ comment has already drawn more ‘likes’ than the page itself.

Facebook has already been the centre of much controversy at the University following criticism of the ‘Spotted: University of York Library’ page after a number of posts were said to include sexual harassment and body-shaming.

The owners of the page are yet to publish any sexual reports, but the page has received comments from a number of students condemning the practice of rating sexual experiences publicly. Louis Lunts, a History student at the University commented: “What the hell is wrong with you? If you have a love life, keep it to yourself. If you don’t, keep your snotty, crusty little noses out of other people’s business.”

Following the criticism of the page the description was changed to include a disclaimer, and the page has now subsequently been deleted.

  1. Is it a group or is it a page? Well, it’s a page. Obviously. Jeez…

  2. Not a bad article, 5/10, could have explored deeper. Totally hit the spot about sex lives being a private(s) affair. However, it’s only natural that my nose will become crusty after one dives into other’s business..
