Not Barred Yet

Derwent college Slag and Drag posterDERWENT STUDENTS have been given cause for hope after the overwhelming financial success of several high profile events.

The high attendance at college events ‘Slag and Drag’ and ‘Rave D’, alongside Derwent’s popularity at Access All Areas, show students across the University are rallying behind the campaign to save the bar.

Derwent’s bar manager shared her positive outlook on the future of the bar in a message to the college’s JCRC. She assured the committee that, after taking £4,200 at Slag and Drag, ‘this way they can never shut down our bar’.

JCRC Chair Joe Rankin agreed with the statements and added: “It was really pleasing to see all of Derwent’s students, especially the new year, getting behind the bar.”

He added: “I was really pleased with the success of the first couple of socials, I hope that Commercial Services can see the potential the bar holds.”

However YUSU president Tim Ngwena added to the student perception of YUSU’s indifference to the situation when he told Vision “so far so good”.

‘The result so far is that Derwent is doing well. This is understandable as the first two weeks bring a naturally high volume of students into the bars any way.’
