CHANCELLOR BACKS VOTE REFORMS

University Chancellor Greg Dyke has joined the campaign to reform the national voting system.

The “Yes to AV” campaign, which argues for electoral reform and the introduction of a system in which candidates are ranked according to preference, is also supported by such famous names as Stephen Fry, John Cleese and Helena Bonham-Carter.

Dyke has joined the campaigns team of Vice-Chairs and lent his support on its website, saying: “First Past the Post is broken. It is time for change and that is why I am backing a Yes vote.”


GOODRICKE VC STEPS DOWN

The Goodricke JCRC Vice-Chair for Democracy & Welfare has resigned from the committee forn reasons that Vision are as yet unaware of.

Vision contacted representatives of the college who are currently unable to comment on why the Vice-Chair has stepped down, as investigations are still ongoing.

However, a by-election has been announced, with nominations closing on Sunday night. Voting will open on Friday and close this Sunday.


GREEN MP VISITS YORK

NUS PRESIDENT Aaron Porter has announced that he will not seek re-election at this year’s NUS Conference.
The incumbent has said that the fees campaign is “moving into a new landscape” and that the Union needs a new president.

Controversy surrounded Porter after the first march against tuition fee rises in November, in which the Tory Headquarters in London were ransacked by a number of protestors.
A new president will be elected at this summer’s Conference.

  1. Rumour has it that Pete Sharp stepped down due to ordering too many coaches for Goodricke goes to Leeds. As a result the JCRC lost loads of money.
