Men’s Basketball: York 87 – 60 Leeds Trinity

DSC_0352YORK’S BASKETBALL 1STS continued their good form to record a comfortable
87-60 victory against rivals Leeds Trinity on Wednesday.
York were quick out of the blocks, racing to a 13-4 lead with less than two
minutes of the 1st quarter played. Using the ball well when in possession
and quick to win it back, York were playing with confidence.

Initially shocked by York’s bright opening, Leeds Trinity were soon fighting
back, regaining possession and countering quickly to exploit the home team’s
commitment to attack. Drawing fouls to win free throws, Leeds started
getting back in the game and by the end of the first quarter they were
leading 21-19.

The second quarter saw both teams evenly matched. It was York though who
took the initiative, breaking away midway through the second quarter to
reach halftime 48-30 ahead. After the interval York assumed control,
impressing with the skill of their shot making, Marcus Johansson was played
well in his forward role.

The match was a formality by the end of the third quarter. The final score
87-60 in favour of York.
