A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering missing York chef Claudia Lawrence.

The local York resident was held by police this morning.

Detectives investigating the disappearance of Miss Lawrence are conducting forensic examinations and searches which are expected to carry on for the next few days.

Police have not said where they expect to carry these tests out but have confirmed that a car has been seized.

They also say that the 35-year-old’s body has not been found.

The family of Miss Lawrence has been informed.

Claudia went missing after working at the University’s Goodricke College in March 2009.

A review into her disappearance was launched by detectives earlier this year following the formation of a new major crime unit at North Yorkshire Police.

At that time, police said they believed the 35-year-old was murdered.

Anyone with information is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, selecting Option 1, and passing on the details to the Force Control Room by quoting “Claudia Lawrence” before doing so.
