Sam Maguire crowned Langwith Chair

After a fantastic ball held at the York Railway museum, Langwith’s newly elected JCRC was announced at the after party in Yates’. Sam Maguire, AKA ‘Irish’, convincingly won the position of College Chair with 256 votes, whitewashing Amy White’s 96.

Sam told Vision: “I’m over the moon to have won, and all the support I have been given is incredible. I can’t thank everyone enough for giving me this opportunity. We have a lot of work to do to and I can’t wait to get started and to add to the great work of the previous JCRC. We have a really fantastic group of people who have been voted into the other positions so it’s going to be a great year!”

The attendance at both the ball and the after-party, where the election results were announced, highlights the fact that Langwith’s college spirit  remains despite the recent move to Hes East.

Everyone was very excitable and took a keen interest in each of the hotly-contested positions. The position for Vice Chair for Entertainment won by Edward Kent, whilst Harry Toynton beat Ellie Hendy by 76 votes to the equivalent position for Welfare.

He will be capably assisted by the new Welfare team, made up of Jemima Busby and Diederik Van Wersch, who have promised to continue their predecessors’ good work with further increases to the frequency of welfare events and drop-in sessions.

The finances, meanwhile, will be looked after by Daniel H. Buchan, who moves up from the position of Sponsorship Rep last year to Treasurer in the coming year.
