Locals boycott Yates after turning away disfigured Military Veteran

YatesYork Locals have started a Facebook campaign to boycott Yates bar after they allegedly ‘turned away’ an Afghanistan veteran ‘because he had a scarred face’.

Over three hundred people have joined the campaign so far, which was started on Saturday evening. The war veteran said that the scars were “due to a blast from an IED explosion while serving in Afghanistan.”

The doorman said according to the Facebook event that “he has scars all over his face and it looks bad,” and then proceeded to say there was nothing he could do.

James Dalby, the serviceman refused entry, commented;

“I walked up with few of my mates that I was with and Yates was the  first place we went, so none of us were pissed. So anyway, as I got to the doorman he went to say something but stopped and told me wait a minute which I thought fair enough letting people get in and out.

“He then turned back to me and said “Sorry you can’t come in, you’re dressed too casual.”

“Two lads behind were with me I said you’ll have to grab the others so we go somewhere else so I waited and one lasses I was with came out called me over I explained I couldn’t get in so she asked him why said same thing to her.

She asked “What’s the real reason?” And that’s when he turned round and said “Because of the scars on his face”.” [sic]

The organisers of the boycott stressed on the page that “this is not a politically motivated rally or demo” or a “far-right event”, while “many supporters of EDL BNP and other groups will be in attendance of this” they “welcome everyone. This is not to be turned into a rally against anything other than to stop discrimination.”

Attendees to the event expressed their shock at the treatment of the veteran and pointed out York’s Military history.

Yates have since removed their Facebook page and were unavailable for comment.

  1. “I explained I couldn’t get in so she asked him why said same thing to her.”

    Quality writing there, Horton.

  2. @ Impressed

    Hey, this was lifted from a direct quote, which is why it says [sic] at the end. I quoted it, incorrect grammar and all. Hope it didn’t mess with the understanding of the piece

  3. @Impressed Thank you for making yourself look a tit and thus confirming what I always suspected, that people on this website who comment accusing other people of bad writing don’t actually know a thing about writing either. Here was me thinking this paper was read exclusively by Pulitzer prize winners.

  4. “Locals boycott Yates”. Good, means there’ll be less creeps in there now and it’ll be possible to enjoy a drink in peace.
