Letting agency set up by current York student

AHOUSES

A York student has set up a letting agency aimed specifically at students.

Current student, Ryan Hill, set up the business following a bad experience he had with a local letting agency while setting up next year’s accommodation.

The new enterprise, called The Student Agency, aims to “reduce the costs of agency fees for students” and “treat students fairly and properly”.
They are also trying to cater for international students.

YUSU President Sam Maguire said: “We have been in conversation with the student letting agency about their proposals, and we still have to discuss further whether or not we will support their venture as, although in principal it would be great for students, we have to do due diligence to make sure the business model will work for our members.”

The new agency comes weeks after YUSU’s own plans for a student-run agency were rejected by the Trustee Board.

Students originally voted for YUSU’s agency in a 2013 referendum.

The Student Agency can be contacted through their Facebook page. [LINK]
