Men’s 1sts: York 17 – 1 Lancaster

University of York Lacrosse Club claimed all eight Roses points with three emphatic victories. The mixed lacrosse team was the first to humiliate with a 21 – 5 victory. A combination of star players from the men’s and women’s 1st teams proved far too much for a less than impressive Lancaster side. As per usual, Men’s Captain Phil Harrold and Club President Krishna Balan were quick to get on the scorecard, securing York a comfortable 2 – 0 lead very early on. Lancaster soon clawed one back, the ball rolling painfully slow into the York net, before Izzi Mattick spurred the York side back to life, giving the white rose a lead of 6 goals to 1 at quarter time. Lancaster added another score after the restart, though again, York punished the competition with a flurry of goals from the usual suspects, Chris Menon also taking an opportunity to make himself known. York increased their lead to 12 – 2 at half-time. In the thrid quarter Harrold continued to increase York’s lead and when Lancaster fought back with a third, Balan was quick to crush Lancastrian hopes with yet another superb goal. York charged into the final 15 minutes with a massive 16 -3 lead. The final quarter saw Lancaster add another two goals to the scoreline although yet again, these goals paled into insignificance by the onslaught of York goals that instinctively followed. Once again Balan was at the forefront of the assault with the rest of the dream team, Yeomans and Harrold, always contributing. 21 – 5.

The York women racked up a record 40-0 scoreline, although the Women’s game has never been played for points; perhaps a wise plea from the visitors. A total of 11 players added their names to the score sheet, as the girls were completely dominant with what must have been close to 100 percent possession. Lancaster had conceded ten goals before even entering the York half. 1sts Captain and England national player Anna Yeomans ran the show, practically scoring every time she got the ball and scoring several totally individually, straight from the restart. Yeomans scored more than 20 goals in one hour of Lancastrian hell. Izzi Mattick and Charlotte Pelter also stood out as dominant attacking players, adding their names to the score sheet time and time again. The Lancaster keeper was largely clueless as she let in a torrent of goals every quarter. An easy win for the York Lacrosse women and total embarrassment for a less than lacklustre Lancaster.

The men’s 1sts were last to play but continued to assert the kind of York Lacrosse dominance that had been observed all morning. David Pooley, looking hot on crease, opened the scoring, however, Lancaster’s men, always searching for goal, looked far more prepared than their dismal women. Star player Krishna Balan eventually made it 2 – 0 and shortly after Pooley got his second and made it 3 to none. At this point it was clear that the men would also run up a large tally of goals. York ended the first quarter with a 7 – 0 lead. Lancaster, not yet defeated, managed to claw one back though just seconds before George Breese crushed any hope of a red rose comeback. With a more than healthy 8 goal lead, Balan fired in a screamer to make it 10 – 1 at half-time. After the interval York showed no signs of slowing down; York took a massive 15 – 1 lead into the final quarter. The final quarter saw a temporary dry spell for the York men with Lancaster doing well to keep them out of goal, but it was just too little too late. Balan soon shattered the stalemate before Luke Shilling eagerly put the final nail in the Lancastrian coffin: 17 – 1, and eight points for York.
