James women’s thrash Langwith 9-2 in Varsity final

A strong James outfit saw off the challenge of Langwith 9-2 to progress to Varsity in Durham as first seeds. Hat tricks from Anty Cole and Rosie Hay propelled James to a big win.

It was Langwith who took the lead within seconds of the game starting, with the impressive Alicia Miller scoring.

James took time to find their rhythm but managed to level relatively soon afterwards, with Rosie Hay finishing well after a nice ball through.

Hay had her second minutes later, showing great awareness to poke home quickly past the onrushing keeper. Her hat trick nearly came on the next attack but she shot over.

Langwith thought they had equalised with a second Miller goal, but it was ruled out for a high ball. James then went down the other end and extended their lead, with Anty Cole claiming her first with a nice touch inside and a thunderous finish.

James went even further ahead as Hay completed her hat trick with a long range finish resulting from some decent build up play from the Black Swan.

Langwith managed to pull a goal back through Ellie Yates, leaving the half time score standing at 4-2.

Despite still being in the game at the break, Langwith needed to score next to have any chance of pulling it back. It was not to be as a quick double from Sophie Jermy, the second a beautiful run and finish, took the game away from Langwith.

The goals kept on coming for James with Cole soon scoring twice to complete a hat trick. A direct run through the middle of the pitch allowed her to finish easily before a bustling run down the left was finished low into the corner.

Captain Lauren Larkin completed the rout for James soon after, leaving the final score at 9-2. Both teams will progress to Varsity having won their semi finals yesterday, with James looking like a particularly strong outfit. Langwith also look solid, with Alicia Miller’s pace and skill a strong asset to the women in yellow.
