Among those selected is the co-founder of Working Title films, Tim Bevan CBE. Bevan’s films, including Bridget Jones’s Diary, Hot Fuzz and Atonement, have grossed over $4.5 billion worldwide.
York’s first female Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Emerita Professor Felicity Riddy will also be honoured, having played a major role in the development of the Heslington East campus before leaving the position in 2007.
The list of nine degree recipients also includes Dr Sebastian Payne, one of Britain’s most distinguished zooarchaeologists, who also sits on the Department of Archeology’s advisory board, and Caroline Thompson, a York graduate who was Chief Operations Officer for the BBC until September last year.
The bi-annual honours list is completed by Thomas Swan OBE, Sir Stuart Rose, Professor Martha Nussbaum, Professor Sir Peter Hirsch FRS and Professor Marie‑Claude Gaudel.
The University gives honorary degrees to individuals who they feel have made a significant contribution to society. The nominations for these awards are made by members of the University.
