Dusky to headline Big D

DuskyYork Vision can exclusively reveal the first headliner of the biggest on-campus event of the summer term, Big D.

London-based Dusky will be playing a set at Carnival’D on June 27th. The house duo have received airtime from Radio 1 DJs Pete Tong, Zane Lowe and Toddla T to name a few.

They are the first of three headliners to be announced, with the final act revealed at the Big D launch night in Week 3.

Derwent Vice Chair Ents, Joel Brocklehurst, told Vision: “Dusky are a massive name in the house scene. We’re so excited that we’ve managed to bring them to York and we know they’re going to play a blinding set.”

Brocklehurst added: “Big D is the highlight of the summer term and it’s really starting to take shape now.”

The organisers have expanded Big D this year, planning a food court and a shisha tent, as well as four stages of music, including an outdoor silent disco.

Carnival’D will also hold a competition for student bands to enter later in the term to compete for a slot on one of the main stages, alongside the headline acts.

Last year’s headline acts included Roll Deep and Scott Mills.

Tickets for the event will go on sale in Week 3, at a cost of £25.

  1. One of the biggest and best house acts in the country , and I think it’s safe to say a hell of a lot better than last years Scott Mills, and Roll Deep. Just do one youtube search of Dusky, and you’ll find countless tunes. What does Scott Mills do but play Justin Beiber on radio 1, and talk shit for hours. And Roll Deep, speak for themselves, just because they had a number 1 doesn’t make them good or worth seeing. At least Dusky is a credible act, that I for one can not wait to see.

  2. So Buzzin 4 da big d. so glad its house music, gonna get off ma face on K, love house music. luv bein a trustafarian. just sick m8. everyone luvs house if not then u clearly arent cool and should go to the library

  3. Some proper whingers on here. Dusky is an absolutely massive name, played some mega sets at Sankeys etc. People moaning about it, fair does get a grip and go listen to Nicki Minaj. Embarrassing!

  4. “I cant wait to buy my ticket for Big D!”..Said nobody ever.

  5. …and it tells me another £7000 loss will occur.

  6. This is the first act released, calm down everyone… Also, just because you haven’t heard of them it doesn’t mean they’re bad

  7. I think I speak on behalf of a lot of people at this Uni when I say, we don’t give a toss that you lot dislike the kind of music. A lot of people do and the organisers have done a great job getting these guys. If you don’t like it just shut up and don’t buy a ticket.

Also there’s two more to be announced.

  8. Big D used to be good. Headliners from recent years: Pendulum, Scratch Perverts, Basshunter, Utah Saints, Huw Stevens, Chase and Status, Simian Mobile Disco, Chesney Hawkes. A mix of cheese and credible music, in other words. I like electronic music but have barely heard of Dusky.

  9. Perfect for me, not sure about the rest of the Uni! Dusky, and frankly anything from AUS, are something else…

  10. How do you speak on behalf of a lot of people, are you the leader of some sort of movement? The Jesus of House, spreading his message of musical taste throughout the University, the blandest most repetitive messiah ever known.

  11. There are obviously going to be other acts, it would be dumb not to get a house act considering its a growing scene. Plus Dusky are actually pretty decent.

  12. This is not the main headline act is it? Maybe we should wait until until all of them have been announced before we make a decision…
