First-year, Gareth Dybiec, has been elected James College JCRC chair 2014.

Dybiec is keen to give the college a fresh start. With an emphasis on leading the “best JCRC on campus”, the new chair is keen to focus on the 12 unfilled positions still available.

The turnout was a cause for concern for some of the outgoing JCRC and, with uncontested chair-elect admitting it “no secret that we had a low turnout in nominations”, Dybiec has promised his college he has the skills to lead the college having already “worked very quickly to gather up interest” commenting he was “pleased to say that a lot of people will be attending our Friday night co-options session”.

Welfare Vice-Chair candidate Chrstina Sztolin also defeated incumbent candidate Ellie Lomas by 10 votes. Sztolin promises to bring her JCRC experience to her new role.

Other notable results include Rebecca Arnaud, who successfully won the hotly contested position of Welfare officer sailing through the first round on the back of a strong campaign, with Callum Hall joining his colleague in the final round.

With 12 unfilled positions and the college’s second uncontested chair in two years, College Officer Mike Britland has called on all those still interested, with outgoing Vice Chair Dan Ashcroft telling Vision that it “looks like it will be a full committee after the bi-elections”.
