FEEDER ARE PLAYING! PLAYING! PLAYING!

The first act playing at this year’s Summer Ball has been announced as Welsh alt-rock outfit Feeder, who will headline the end-of-term event held annually at York Racecourse.

Now classed as veterans of the indie music scene, having been around since 1991, they are most well known for their 2001 pop-punk classic ‘Buck Rogers’ and their slower 2005 stadium-rock number ‘Feeling a Moment.’

Having sold over 1.5 million records in their career, in late April of this year, they released their eighth studio album, Generation Freakshow, to positive reviews from critics, happy to see the band back on the music scene.

With their main body of success between 2000-2006, they have slipped under the radar in recent years, splitting with long-time drummer Mark Richardson and going as far as changing their name to Renegades for the vast majority of 2012.

Indeed, front man and band founder Grant Nicholas expressed disappointment when Renegades became more well known and were asked to play at larger venues.

Their biggest hits are instantly recognisable and Nicholas is convinced the songs on Generation Freakshow, some of which will no doubt be exhibited at the ball, will rival the likes of ‘Buck Rogers’ and ‘Borders’ for commercial success.

Last year’s Summer Ball headline acts were The Subways, Darwin Deez, dubstep act Nero and Amy Winehouse’s god-daughter Dionne Bromfield, all of whom turned up and proved popular, which was a relief after 2010’s debacle when N-Dubz pulled out at the last minute.

YUSU President Tim Ellis is absolutely delighted with the act they have secured. Speaking exclusively to Vision, he said: “we are extremely pleased to announce that Feeder will be headlining this year’s Summer Ball at York Racecourse. This is the biggest act that has performed at a York event in recent times and it will provide an amazing end to the year for York students. We will be announcing more acts over the next few weeks.”

York Racecourse will once again play host to the traditional end of year formal event on the 20th June, attended mostly by graduating third-years.

The £35 ticket will include free transport to the out-of-town venue, where revellers will be treated to such delights as a giant funfair, complete with dodgems, inflatable games and “white knuckle rides,” and of course famous names from the world of music.

Five bars, free candy floss and chocolate fountain to supplement the numerous food stalls, a portrait artist, a casino, silent disco and massive dancefloors will accommodate up to 2,500 students.

Once Feeder and the rest of the acts have long packed up and gone home, completing the night will be the famous “survivors photo”, for those hardy enough to be still going strong at 4AM.

  1. Love Feeder! Seen them live before and they were actually pretty great then – hope they do play some of their old stuff though!

  2. The best thing about this article has to be the fantastic headline, playing on Feeder’s major hit ‘Buck Rogers.’

    Keep up the wittiness chaps!

  3. Maybe Feeder would have been relevant if this was the summer ball of 2002 not 2012.

  4. Yeah it’s really funny. I don’t think the write thought of it though, given it is the only well written bit of this article.

  5. So you’re saying this article is badly written, while your comment makes precisely no sense.

  6. They have a new album just out, UK tour coming up and are playing T in the Park and Isle of Wight this summer… Great shout YUSU!

  7. SOOO HAPPY WITH THIS! good work YUSU, lets hope the rest of the acts live up to this standard :)

  8. Finally an act at the summer ball with mass appeal, and they might actually show up. A nice way to say goodbye to York after 5 years. :)

  9. summer ball? judging from what happened the last 2 years, probably means they won’t come then :(

  10. “last 2 years”

Which act didn’t show up last year or at Live and Loud?

    Fool

  11. you’re clearly a first year. speaking from personal experience of the last TWO YEARS of summer ball, the main acts did not turn up. FOOL

  12. Ndubz did NOT turn up last year because they weren’t headlining, that was the year before FOOL. Last year the Subways, Nero, Dione Bromfield and Dawrwin Deez all turned up.

Last year Marina and the Diamonds and Sunshine Underground turned up for the Big Bang.

And this year the Pigeon Detectives, DJ Fresh and Rizzle Kicks turned up for Live & Loud.

Admittedly before this acts had a habit of not showing up but YUSU have upped their game massively now.

  13. “you’re clearly a first year. speaking from personal experience of the last TWO YEARS of summer ball, the main acts did not turn up. FOOL”

Not only do you come across as a condescending arse, but you’re also completely wrong. All acts have shown up since 2010’s Summer Ball.

  14. There is a history of acts not turning up, people pointing this out are completely valid… but we shall see, personally I hope they do as I don’t want to sit through another X-Factor back up like Eoghan ‘Eyebrows’ Quigg

  15. People, people, use common sense

YUSU have a history of dicking people over for refunds when things like this happen, at best they issue a partial refund (which in the case of the nDubz fiasco was about £5 of a £42 ticket) and still you have to fight for it

The solution is very simple, buy your ticket with a credit card and if the act does not turn up and YUSU do not offer a complete refund simply ring your bank and have the money refunded the same day, this elevates the issue and YUSU can do absolutely nothing about it whatsoever, you only need to tell your credit card company that the person you bought a service/product from did not deliver the final product (which, if an act cancels is exactly what is occurring)

I did this for the nDubz ticket AND the big bang ticket (when the bouncer turned us away because they were at capacity which was a disgrace and the moron who organised that event should have allocated tickets equal to the maximum capacity)and got the money back within seven days no hassle.

If you don’t trust the person you buy from (ESPECIALLY YUSU), buy with a credit card
