Two branches of coffee chain Starbucks are to open on campus within the next year, York Vision can reveal.

The first will open its doors in only two weeks, on April 25th, within the The Edge food outlet in Wentworth college.

The second branch will be in the Piazza building on Heslington East “from 2017,” University registrar David Duncan confirmed.

University bosses are keen to bring more students to the smaller campus. York Vision last month disclosed that Unity Health, the campus surgery, will be permanently moving to Hes East.

The Hes East Starbucks outlet will be the first branded franchise on the newer campus since it opened in 2009.

“The aim is simply to provide more variety on campus,” Duncan said. “Other new food outlets will be opening beside the field lane medical centre late in 2016 or early in 2017.”

Hundreds of students are currently only able to choose between the Glasshouse, or the University restaurant in the Ron Cooke Hub.

It is as yet unclear whether the Costa coffee outlets in James and Derwent will stay open, or also be made into branches of Starbucks.

Starbucks were contacted for a comment.
