Crunch Clashes

Both York’s Men’s and Women’s 1sts Lacrosse sides will be looking to extend their exceptional starts to the season tomorrow in two crunch games, as they aim to maintain their 100% records, which see them sit atop their respective divisions.

Four wins in four games has given the Women’s 1sts reason to celebrate in Northern 2B, and they will be hoping for a similar result this week when they travel to third placed Northumbria 1sts, who are also unbeaten after winning their opening three contests in convincing style.

Indeed this promises to be arguably the most challenging clash of the year for York, as they aim to seal their much vaunted promotion.

Last week, the side defeated second placed Newcastle 2nds, and another win against arguably their main competitors for the title, would set them on course to record a brilliant, unbeaten campaign in BUCS.

The Men’s 1sts have been in similarly fine form, conceding only two goals in their opening three fixtures, as they have amassed three sublime victories leaving them top of their Northern 2B division.

This week, though, they appear to be set for a sterner test of their promotion credentials when they host fellow unbeaten side Leeds Met Carnegie 2nds.

A resounding goal difference of 89 after only three games, has shown how dominant York have been to date, and they will be looking to build on their momentum as they, like the Women’s 1sts, seek promotion.

The key clash for the men will take place at 14:00 on 22 Acres, and then in two weeks’ time they make the trip to former Varsity rivals Hull 1sts, whom they have recorded resounding victories against over past years.

If both sides can record valuable victories tomorrow then it bodes well for the club for the rest of the year, as they look to build on the fact that they have recently been declared as the University of York’s fifth focus sport. Promotion is the main aim, and further victories would keep them on course.
