Connor Brennan elected as University Football 1sts Captain

University Football striker Connor Brennan has bagged the position of first captain following UYAFC elections last Monday.

Brennan replaces the outgoing Mark McLeod who has enjoyed a relatively successful season as football firsts skipper. Fellow Halifax team-mate Tommy Smith was elected seconds captain, whilst Angus O’Brien and Nick St. George were selected to lead the thirds and fourths respectively.

The newly-elected captains will work alongside new chairman Sam Clitheroe, a popular figure who has long been tipped to replace the outgoing Greg Gardner as figurehead of the club.

Reflecting upon an important night for UYAFC, Gardner admitted that the class of 2009/10 would be a “hard act to follow”, but said he was “confident that the new committee are up to the job”.

New vice-president Ali Prince, Secretary Matt Hallam and Treasurers Simon Mole and Alex Sharpe make up the remainder of the new committee that will be looking to push hard for promotion for all four of its teams following an encouraging season.

Despite losing several key figures such as Gardner and Dan Cox, Brennan and co. have the luxury of holding onto a large number of freshers recruited by the club at the beginning of the season, and will be able to pick from a cohort of first-year talent that includes Ash Daly, Dan Turley and Dom ‘Rodders’ McMahon.
