James 2nd’s absolutely destroyed a sorry Langwith 3rd’s side 9-0 to lay down a marker to start their college cup campaign.
For the opening few minutes the sides seemed to be relatively evenly matched with both sides having relatively even possession. This quickly evaporated and James began to show their class gaining dominance over the match .
Callum Elliot had a early chance to open the scoring, and this was quickly followed up by Sam Taylor who’s shot went narrowly wide. The screw was slowly being turned on the Langwith back line that was proving as porous as a wet sponge. Ralph Gill had another great chance but his shot was deflected off the post, poor old Steve Le Cornu in the Langwith goal was under siege.
It was inevitable that the pressure would be converted into goals and so it proved. Off a corner Pete Mabe bundled the ball home past Le Cornu, who perhaps should have done better and from then on the floodgates opened.
James pressed on, Gill had another great chance to score but his header was cleared off the line. But Sam Taylor made up for this with a stunning individual goal, taking the ball, turning on his heel and volleying it into the corner with staggering speed and accuracy.
The onslaught continued with Elliot on the end of a James Splilsbury corner to make it 3 as half time approached, it was the last James deserved. Indeed the ball had barely entered the James half at all, keeper Ben Raper probably had exerted himself more on the walk to the game than during it.
The Second half didn’t provide any let up. A early shot from Matija Pisk signalled James’s intent and this was followed up by a own goal as the James Corner was bundled in by a hapless Langwith defender, pretty aptly summing up their day. The next goal followed soon after as a well taken Ameer Alhassan throw in was intercepted and scored by Will Manners.
The Langwith horrorshow continued as Gill strongly headed the ball in to make it seven off a Spilsbury corner.
James now quietly confident in their chances of victory did lay off the gas somewhat and in truth the final few minutes were as dull as dishwater. However Langwiths defensive ineptitude knew no bounds as a free for all in the box saw Gill dribble the ball into the net for number 8.
As Langwith waited for the referees whistle to put them out of their misery but before this merciful event could occur Alhassan’s shot was saved by the keeper but Taylor scored off the rebound to complete the humiliation.
James Captain Matija Pisk, was delighted with his teams efforts telling vision “It wasn’t the hardest match, but it was a tremendous effort from the lads, and we achieved our objectives”
In contrast Langwith captain Tom Rudden was visibly upset by the result, “desperately dissapointed, i’ve never seen us play so badly, no commitment, no heart, we have to do better next time”.
