College Cup: James 1s 12 – 0 Goodricke 3s

James 1st annihilated Goodricke 3rds in one of the most one sided affairs in College cup history. James’s Clarke bagged himself 5 goals while Davies scored a brace himself. A goal each from Ferrao, Haresnape, Jobson and Ralph and own goal from the Goodricke centre back topped off an awful afternoon for the Goodricke 3rds on a miserable Thursday afternoon on the JLD.

The first goal came from a swift passing movement between the James midfield, before Dan Haresnape was able to get his head on the ball to put it in the path of Davies who slotted home the first past the Goodricke keeper.

All afternoon James’s physical presence was too much for Goodricke and as a result Goodricke was barely able to string a couple of passes together let alone provide any sought of threat in the final third.

After the first goal went in the floodgates opened, Clarke grabbed his first capitalising on some sloppy defending, Davies provided the assist.

Davies could have added to his tally later with more sloppy defending but shot wide of the mark.

It wasn’t long before Clarke added to his tally and Ralph and Haresnape also getting themselves on the score sheet. Even the James full back tried to get in on the action when the ball fell to him nicely on the edge of the area but the shot went well wide of the target.

Before the half time whistle Ferroa forced a string of fantastic saves from the Goodricke goalkeeper but his good work was soon forgotten when Davies took advantage of some fantastic wing play from Woodman to score his second.

The second half was very much the same as the first with James 1’s dominating possession, with Clarke securing his hat trick gifted to him by some woeful keeping.

The highlight of the second half though was a goal from the left sided midfielder Ferrao, cutting in from the right side to score a thirty yard screamer, the keeper looked on sheepishly in the goal as he watched contender for goal of the tournament go in.

A beautifully curved ball into the middle was complimented by a well timed run from the number 13 Jobson to head on into the goal and James looked well in their stride taking the score to 9-0.

Two more goals from the emphatic Clarke and an own goal to top it off summed up an afternoon for Goodricke 3rds as miserable as the weather. Goodricke will go into their next games hoping to make amends while James will be brimming with confidence after a brilliant team performance.

MOTM: Clarke
