In one of the opening games to the football College Cup this week, it was always going to be a hard game for the James 3rds team against a very good Halifax first side.

With the result obvious before the game, the mighty ‘Fax’ held possession for the early minutes and seemingly the rest of the game. With an opening chance soon in the first half through Dan Jones who got one on one with the James goalkeeper, Andy Lake, who came out and grabbed the ball.

The first half progressed and Halifax took control, with the ball never entering the James quarter. The first goal came from a classy finish into the bottom left hand corner from Alex after a setback by Tom Day. James failed to make a response with their only chance being a long ball which Halifax’s Arezoo calmly sorted out.

With not long to go before the half time whistle Halifax extended their lead further with a chest down from Tom Day, who turned and smashed the ball into the bottom right hand corner making the score 2-0.

The second half kicked off as the sun shone down on Halifax as they carried off pretty much where they left off in the first half. It was simply about extending their lead if they could. A great cross for Halifax and the header shies just wide as they looked for a third goal.

With Halifax breaking forward past a James defence were standing strong, despite a difficult challenge, sliding a great ball into Tom Day who was tackled by Lake after having his attempts to shoot saved.

What worked against James was their inability to push forward while having the ball. Their one chance of the game came from Kris Sivagnanam whose shot on target resulted in a great save from the Halifax goalkeeper who had, thus far, little to do throughout the game.

Halifax carried on going for goal but were lacking creativity in their approach and the score remained 2-0 at full time.

  1. Wow, this is awfully written! I wonder if the reporter was trying to fend off the unwanted attentions of Stuart Hall while trying to pen this?

  2. This article reads like it was written in French first and then put into google translate…
