Goodricke 1sts dispatched Langwith 2nds with three second-half goals after an unconvincing start in the drizzle this afternoon.

Two excellent strikes by Chris Osborne and a third from Dan Gorringe saw the group favourites triumph in their opening encounter, leaving Langwith bottom of the group C table.

After a bitty opening Goodricke found their feet, with two efforts from Joe Mann bringing good saves out of goalkeeper Olly Williams. His second – a shot from distance – saw Williams get a strong hand to the ball and parry it out as far as Innes, but the midfielder couldn’t tuck away the rebound, heading over from just two yards.

Dalton Harris produced a terrific performance throughout the afternoon, his first notable contribution a low drive from just outside the penalty area which struck the outside of Langwith’s right-hand post. Then, Harris almost broke the deadlock with a powerful effort kept out by the in-form Williams.

And just moments later he set up Mann for what looked like the opener, but another terrific stop from Williams kept Goodricke at bay.

Stu Dunk rifled over before half time, and Langwith were evidently buoyed to go into the break all square.

The second period was again one-way traffic, but this time Goodricke took their chances.  Joe Mann played in Chris Osborne for the first, before Osborne wrapped the game up with a sweet drive from twenty five yards. His second goal went staright through Williams’ net, causing a delay in the Goodrcike support’s celebrations as they waited for the referee to confirm the goal.

And it really was game over when Goodricke’s Dan Gorringe netted a delicious lob to get his College off to a perfect College Cup start.
