Charity Bike Ride

By Natasha Holden

After receiving heart-breaking news on his father’s recent illness, Max Fernando of Halifax College and his housemate Ben Whitelam took action.

A spur of the moment idea to bike ride nearly two hundred miles, from London to York, in twenty four hours has now raised over one thousand pounds for Cancer Research UK.

With donations from £2 to a whopping £200, in less than a week, Fernando’s original aim of raising five hundred pounds was smashed in days, taking the target up to one thousand, and now one thousand five hundred.

Leaving London at 8pm on May 8th, they intend on riding all night and day to arrive slightly before 8pm on the 9th, just in time for Sunday night Gallery. This is no small feat considering the guys say they’ve only ridden approximately thirty miles each in one go.

Fernando stated that he ‘thought it would be hard but doable and would show my dad what he meant’.
