What’s the most important part of your manifesto?

The important part of any manifesto is ensuring the policies become a reality. In my role as York Sport President so far, this is exactly what I have done and this is exactly what I intend to do if re-elected.

I do however believe the important theme in my manifesto is ensuring that every student’s experience of sport at York is the best it can possibly be.

To read my full manifesto you can check it out on the YUSU website or on my website in week 7.

How do you differ from the other candidates?

1) Experience: I’ve been in the position for a year already making me more experienced and making my understanding of sport at York more extensive. Overseeing all 63 clubs has developed my passion and knowledge for every sport at York rather than just my own sport.

2) The difference I have already made to the York Sport Union:

Since being in office….

–    York moved up 10 places in BUCS to our highest placing in the University’s history.

–    I secured £10,000 of extra funding

–    Implemented on-campus Physio for the highly subsidised price of £5

–    Introduced first ever fully-funded pre-Roses training camp.

–    Pioneered ‘Key Contacts’ – a scheme that aims to allow disabled students more opportunities within sport and tackles homophobia and transgender within sport, making the York Sport Union the most inclusive and accessible place it’s ever been.

3) I am completely approachable and dynamic.

What was your favourite thing the previous officer did and why?

Charlotte was a fantastic officer and I loved the alumni focus she brought to Roses. This legacy means that every Roses will involve UOY alumni making the event so much more special.

What’s the most important thing about the role you are going for?

Sport has a huge impact on around 3000 student lives so looking after the welfare of these students is essential. By the time this term of office ends I will have added a welfare officer to the York Sport Committee to ensure the students in our clubs are healthy and happy when playing sport.

However, I think driving clubs to be the best they can through fair treatment and allowing them the best opportunities, is equally as important.

How are you campaigning?

I plan to campaign in a variety of ways! And by that I do mean descending a tonne of cardboard on to campus. But also look out for suspicious goings on in Vanbrugh paradise and a campaign video or two… I also have the following Facebook page

What do you like the most about York?

Aside from the York Sport Union and Wednesdays in general, I love York’s campus and its relatively small size. I love how you’re constantly bumping into people you know which give it that home-y feeling.

What’s the best slogan you can think of for your campaign?

#keepitcassy and/or ‘Brown for black and gold!’

What do you think about York Vision?

I used to write for you – it’s quality assured!
