BUCS Netball : York 3rds 34-52 Leeds Trinity

After a thrilling win last week York 3rds were unable to keep up the momentum as they traveled away to Leeds Trinity. In a hard fought match the game was simply taken away from them the girls gave it their all but unfortunately came away with a loss. Before the game York stood above Trinity in the standing but only based on goal difference so it was all to play for. However with York having two players out it was always going to be a struggle.

Trinity took the game straight to York turning their first two centres and creating a 0-5 lead over York. As York found their play they struggled to discipline their obstruction. But with Lo-Verroken-Jones sprinting straight out at centre passes due to Caitlin Graham struggling as Trinity double marked her York did eventually started to net some shots and the quarter ended 15-6.

As the game entered the second quarter the Trinity GA came into her own game and at time was running rings around York’s defensive players. However York defence had the upper hand on the rebound and through this York were able to turn two goals. However Leeds also took two of York’s centres cancelling out the hard work and with that the quarter ended 26-17

Trinity took the game right away from York’s reach in the 3rd quarter. But the attacking play was still working well as shooter Kav Aggarwal held her player creating space for the drive and with a pass from GA Caitlin Graham being successful York converted. The defence continued to work hard but Trinity’s attacking play was now in full flow and they had their best scoring quarter as it ended 40-23

The fourth quarter was York’s best quarter as they played their own game keeping their heads up despite the score. Becky Coomber at centre continued to work her hard work working the ball down court wonderfully and with Lo-Verrken-Jones the ball was freely passed around the circle. Trinity’s GA was kept quiet in the final quarter as GD Laura Candlish stuck close keeping her away from any play. The game ended 52-34.

York had been on the back foot from the off. But they hadn’t let themselves down. The umpire comment at the end that ‘the play did not reflect the score’
