Blown Away: York’s Brass Band secures Top Three at Nationals

UoY Brass Band The university’s Brass Band has secured a Top Three placing at the National University Brass Band championships.

The band was led by Third Year Music Student Leo James and soloist Charlotte Heaven, who performed ‘Shores of the Mighty Pacific’ by Herbert L. Clarke.

University of York Brass Band member Tom Wilson said of the event: “It was the fourth year the competition has been running and 2014 was the first time that it was held at a university other than Lancaster.”

“There were 15 bands competing, with bands coming from all corners of the country; from Southampton all the way up to Durham.”

The Band in addition secured the prize for ‘Most Entertaining Band’ and were the highest placing non-auditioning student run brass band in the country.

  2. Is it often that one sees flutes and violins at a university brass band competition? I was not aware they were vital to the sound balance of the band.

    Just a shame it was reported as such a pile of poorly written, incorrect and incorrectly illustrated shit, get it right for a change vision people are getting bored of your illiteracy.

  4. Thanks for reporting a story on this, however there are so many mistakes in this it is a little embarassing. Sorry vision but it’s a little embarassing how bad this article is.
