Bio

Hi, I’m Beth and I’m a third year Archaeology student in Alcuin.

In my first year at Uni I was Social Sec for Alcuin JCRC, and in Second year I was a Head STYC, eventually deciding to run for VC Welfare. I loved this role and myself and the team won a YUSU award for Best Welfare team.

This Christmas I was the Event Coordinator for RAGs Winter Wonderland, and over the summer I climbed Kilimanjaro for charity. I’ve also been involved in my department (Archaeology), and have gone on excavation for the last couple of years.

What’s the most important part of your manifesto?

All of it? It’s difficult to pick out one part, I think all of my policies are important, but the part which will potentially directly affect the most students is the creation of off campus communities.

How do you differ from the other candidates?

I think I have a slightly different approach to welfare; whilst I was Vice Chair for Welfare in Alcuin, we tried to make JCRC Welfare more accessible by making it fun and quirky – which obviously worked because we had a massive increase in turn out and we won a YUSU award for best welfare team.

What was your favourite thing the previous officer did and why?

Well, apart from the Harlem Shake video he used during his campaigning, I think that the housing fair is a brilliant initiative, and if I am elected would definitely continue it.

What’s the most important thing about the role you are going for?

I think one of the most important aspects of this role is communication with students, finding out what they think needs improving in terms of welfare and support services; and doing your best to act on this.

How are you campaigning?

I’ll be plastering campus with cardboard signs (obviously), but mostly communicating with students; going round blocks in all of the colleges, whilst also talking to various committees and societies.

What do you like the most about York?

I think the University itself has a wonderful vibe and a really tight knit community, and the town itself is beautiful; I love that you always bump into people, wherever you go (especially Willow).

What’s the best slogan you can think of for your campaign?

Vote Campbell – she does exactly what is says on the tin!

What do you think about York Vision?

I’m slightly hurt to be honest, how comes I was never asked to do the Blind Date? #stillhopin’
