Aiming High

AFTER YEARS of hurt and disappointment, with seasons blighted by near misses in terms of promotion, York’s netballers are once more aiming for one thing and one thing only, promotion from Northern 4B.

The 1sts have enjoyed a fantastic start to their campaign and currently sit atop the table with four wins out of four, three points clear of their nearest rivals Sheffield Hallam 2nds.

Tomorrow they will be looking to add a fifth victory to their tally, as they make the trip to play Sheffield 2nds, who currently sit fourth in the table with three points from three games.

Last week, the side enjoyed an excellent victory over Newcastle University 4ths, as they prevailed 49-34 over one of their main rivals, whilst they also secured a narrow 40-37 win against closest rivals Sheffield Hallam 2nds on the opening day of the season.

The side have continued their exceptional league form into the cup, where they hammered a poor Chester 2nds outfit 85-12 a truly one-sided encounter two weeks ago, setting up an enticing clash against the University of Central Lancashire 1sts a week tomorrow.

Captain Bronwen Dalley-Smith told Vision: “I’m really excited about our upcoming match as this is the last team we are to meet for the first time.
“I’m fully confident that we can continue our winning streak and I am so happy and proud of the girls.

“The season couldn’t be going any better for us and the girls really deserve it, the effort and attitude they’re all demonstrating is second to none.

The 2nds meanwhile have endured a somewhat more challenging campaign, with only one win to show from their opening four games. However this week the side will be looking to bounce back from three consecutive defeats as they make the long trip to play Northumbria 4ths, who currently sit three points and one place above them in the table.

Finally the 3rds will also go in search of their second win of the season as they venture South-West to play Sheffield 3rds, in what promises to be a close encounter between two seemingly well matched sides.
