Matt Bailey
James
After working on the Staff/Student Committee, working as an Academic Integrity Ambassador and serving as a Course Rep for 3 years Bailey is now campaigning for one of the most contested YUSU positions. He lists his policies as making sure budget cuts do not affect degrees, create an “Academic Handbook” as a guide for every student, make sure there are enough key texts available in the library or online and creating a “Contact my Course Rep” section on the YUSU website. However, without the personal base of support available to Humphreys and Rose it remains whether to be seen whether Bailey can make an impact.

Ben Humphrys
Halifax
Humphrys has spent this academic year representing students as the Welfare sabbatical officer for YUSU, and is a well-known campus figure. His policies for this change of position include developing representation and improving links between subject societies, course reps and university departments. He also seeks more training for course reps to improve their effectiveness. Humphrys plans to improve the support for students’ studies online and through peer-to-peer groups. Humphrys is a popular and experienced candidate for the job. His LGBT and Welfare-centric experience, however, may mean he has less personal experience of representing students academically.

Jason Rose
Langwith
Rose has been YUSU Campaigns Officer for the past year, before then sitting as an Ordinary Member on Langwith JCRC. As Campaigns Officer, Rose has had a large role in the Portering Campaign. Rose wants to make the modularisation process as easy as possible, whilst still representing current students. Having sat on many committees, Rose seeks to keep the library refurbishment as undisruptive as possible, whilst still creating a high-standard service. Furthermore, he seeks to keep support and representation for students with disabilitiesas high as possible. Rose has plenty of YUSU experience but his lack of experience representing students directly, in positions such as course rep, means he may seem a distant figure to many students

Elanin Vince
Langwith
Vince is campaigning with the aim to show that YUSU is all about students. The current LGBT Officer and 3rd year Philosophy student states her policies as making academic affairs student-led rather than YUSU-based, making it easier to gain feedback and help on your work and course, creating a student forum with Course Reps as moderators where ideas can be expressed and proposed and increasing transparency within university procedure, e.g. within budgetting. However, without the campus presence or apparent support base of any of the other candidates Vince certainly appears to be the underdog of the Academic Affairs election race.
