YUSU President Candidate Fred Isaac launched his bid at the YUSU Election debate to see the price of drinks slashed in campus bars.

He said he hoped the move would encourage more students to use the outlets.

But the American Football Society boss was challenged by contender Andy Lake, who warned of the risks of cutting alcohol prices.

Final year student Andy claimed the move could end up raising prices of food and events on Heslington West and Heslington East.

He was backed by some Twitter users who said the move “insulted the intelligence of voters”.

One audience member asked whether Mr. Isaac had consulted YUSU and University staff on the proposal – who have the power to change prices.

And another questioned how he would pay for the scheme.

But defiant Fred said he had a number of ways to pay for the proposal.
