Democracy and Services Candidates

Sam-Daniels

Sam Daniels

Alcuin

As YUSU Ents rep Sam Daniels has overseen large scale YUSU events, such as Fresher’s Ball and Access All Areas. Daniels’ headline policies include renaming the Union General Meeting the “Big Vote” in order to make it more approachable for students and expand and promote the University’s bike rental scheme. Daniels has the experience and the ideas to be a viable candidate. However, Daniels was partly responsible for the highly disappointing Freshers’ Ball, and we do not share his confidence in being able to implement his YUSU loyalty card scheme.

Chris-EtheridgeChris Etheridge

Alcuin

Etheridge’s main experience comes from two sources: his year as YUSU Campaigns Officer and his time as Chair of the York Tories. Etheridge wants to bring the “big three” – music, comedy and theatre – back to campus. Free water dispensers and library drop boxes in Halifax and Goodricke are also priorities of his. Despite his campaign slogan of “no more broken promises”, Etheridge does not shy away from making election pledges. However, he would face a steep learning curve as he has arguably the least relevant experience out of the candidates.

Dan-WalkerDan Walker

Goodricke

Walker has been involved with the Goodricke JCRC for the last two years, starting out as bar rep for McQ’s and subsequently taking the position of college Chair. He is most proud of overseeing the “big move” of his college to Heslington East. Walker’s main emphasis is on college strength and he wants to use the student media to increase JCRC exposure. He also wants to bring more acts to campus, utilising both college venues and Central Hall and to mobilise the Courtyard for the colleges without their own bars. Walker has a can-do attitude to and backs it with a plethora of feasible policies. However, his many college-centric plans and lack of YUSU experience may hinder his effectiveness if elected.
