7:20:40 PM: Welcome to the Vision liveblog for URY candidate evening!
7:47:25 PM: Throughout the evening we will be bringing you all the gossip, action and mayhem from behind the scenes of the URY Candidate Interviews!
7:48:38 PM: Just been to see the ‘press room’, saw Jason Rose before his interview, talking about cocaine to someone. Strange…
7:49:43 PM: By the way it’s Paddy Harte doing the blog at the moment, but soon to be taking over will be Angus Hill!
8:04:07 PM: Angus here, sitting tenuously in the press room, lots of LGBT fellows here, waiting for their interviews!
8:04:34 PM: URY have given me free tea, back of the net!
8:05:24 PM: Just a note, you need to refresh the page to see incoming updates, sorry about that, but it will be worth it!!
8:11:25 PM: Suzy and luke for campaigns seem to be trying to gather support here in the pressroom. Its covered in their slogans. Cheeky!
8:13:12 PM: The LGBT candidates seem to be having a very interesting candidate about showers……
8:14:48 PM: LGBT candidates phil and helen are on now…
8:16:24 PM: Apparently “his voice sounds like helium” according to another candidate sat here in the waiting room whose identity will be preserved!
8:19:59 PM: Peter W-M just walked in to hear his name mentioned by this years candidates… “Oh they are talking about me!”
8:20:49 PM: Sounds like phil and helen are going to be busy giving everybody free hugs!
8:22:51 PM: It seems Dave Hansen´s ahead in the Vision poll…. And to think that people doubt the accuracy of opinion polls!
8:24:12 PM: Nell and Tom sound very serious people!
8:26:31 PM: Tom´s been “stalking the Nouse website” apparently! Rather him than me!
8:28:53 PM: Welfare candidate Laura´s on next. Certainly a very lively person and i´ve only spent 5 minutes in the press room with her!
8:32:48 PM: Bo the bear….. interesting idea!
8:34:23 PM: No doubt laura´s finance policies will go down well with us hard up students!
8:35:52 PM: Seems to be getting some pretty tough questioning on PORNO…
8:37:52 PM: This URY interviewer doesn´t seem to be letting the candidates get away with much….
8:40:58 PM: Laura´s having dificulty describing her best qualities in three words….hmmm.
8:42:42 PM: Just to remind you that this is your last chance to hear the candidates before voting starts in just over three hours time….
8:44:25 PM: Peter Warner-Medley´s up now…
8:46:30 PM: Freck´s is here in the press room now… Feeling confident apparently
8:47:46 PM: Peter W-M seems to be taking control of this interview very well
8:48:58 PM: Freck´s doesn´t seem to be too impressed by the Nouse exit poll…..
8:50:58 PM: Frecks: “The only poll that counts is the real one”
8:53:41 PM: Frecks seemed in a very chatty mood tonight… certainly doesn´t seem to be one afraid to speak his mind!
8:54:36 PM: Yeah URY plug our blog!
8:57:05 PM: Dave Hansen´s arrived…… feeling “pretty good” apparently….. wearing a fetching pair of foot ball shorts and shin pads. Nice!
9:00:30 PM: Presidential candidates coming up now….
9:01:20 PM: Matthew Freckleton “call me Freck´s” is on now.
9:02:22 PM: Dave´s “focussed” after a game of football and is asking whether he can have a song request!
9:05:41 PM: Freck´s is disappointed with Tim…
9:07:03 PM: Hutching´s has arrived and seems to be having a nice chat with Hansen….
9:07:44 PM: Kate´s joined me now
9:09:02 PM: Hutching´s has a thermos flask of tea here as he gets ready for his slot…
9:09:59 PM: Freck´s wants “responsible reporting” from the campus media…. i wonder what he´d think of this blog!
9:10:31 PM: Oh dear, vision finds itself under attack…
9:10:35 PM: Ngwena and Levene have failed to turn up…..
9:11:41 PM: Freck´s doesn´t like the sensationalism of student media but can´t give any examples!
9:15:08 PM: Dave Hanson up now
9:15:48 PM: Hutching´s is staying ´realistic´about his chances apparently!
9:16:26 PM: Dave is reading from a 10 page list of proverbs
9:16:33 PM: Dave has the x-factor as he´s “over 7 million years old”!
9:16:51 PM: Dave just cracks us up here in the press room!
9:17:49 PM: Dave is using the typical politiican trick of using really big nonsensical words, good shout Dave
9:18:03 PM: Another proverb from Dave there!
9:18:44 PM: Jesus was a good egg…unintentional easter pun?
9:18:59 PM: If kevin spacey ever goes missing we know where to look!
9:19:51 PM: Pretty much all you can see of Hanson on the webcam is his bare thighs
9:20:03 PM: Derwent 3rd´s are one man down now!
9:20:57 PM: “Mystifying words”-that´s one way to describe it!
9:21:09 PM: mercury is the banging place to be!
9:22:03 PM: Dave claims he is captain of ALL the sports teams
9:22:54 PM: Lewis Bretts is in the URY studio now!
9:23:42 PM: Angus is off so its going to be Kate blogging for the rest of the night!
9:24:56 PM: Nouse didn’t interview Dave as presidential candidate…why wouldn’t they take him seriously?
9:27:58 PM: Ollie feels slightly nervous
9:28:12 PM: Ollie is licking the lid of his flask
9:29:10 PM: Dave has left the studio but his stuff is back here so he has not gone altogether
9:30:23 PM: Dave is still wearing shin pads
9:31:08 PM: Dave has just put his hoodie on over what looks like two tweed jackets
9:33:53 PM: Hutchings sighs nonchalantly as he delicately sips his freshly ground coffee
9:34:19 PM: Tim is on the air, why wasn’t he asked to explain his lateness
9:35:10 PM: David Levene needs the loo
9:35:48 PM: David Levene rushes back half way to the loo as he hears Ngwena say his name on air….bit paranoid
9:37:07 PM: Ollie is sporting an american apparel hoodie, I would describe it as a bright shade of grape, he says its light orchid
9:37:34 PM: Ngwena has a very nice voice, rather soothing i think
9:38:32 PM: Ollie has just been introduced to his interviewer, they eyed each other warily
9:39:01 PM: David Levene would like a coffee with milk
9:40:11 PM: Just me and Levene in the holding area now.
9:41:31 PM: Tim is being very lucid, no umming and ahhing at all
9:45:00 PM: Tim stumbled a bit with that last styc queston
9:45:39 PM: Hutchings is up next
9:46:19 PM: Will Tim stop by the holding area on his way out? Only time will tell
9:47:22 PM: Roberto Powell has just strutted in adjusting the dial on his Ipod
9:47:58 PM: A rather chilly greeting between levene and powell
9:48:40 PM: Powell has lost his voice
9:49:47 PM: It looks as if powell is on before levene, in which case why is levene here so early?
9:50:56 PM: Is pushing the freshers ball as a policy really going to be that effective when it constitutes 1 night of each students entire uni experience
9:56:34 PM: David Levene says he is looking forward to his interview
9:57:03 PM: Hutchings stands by his “aesthetic”, as in his clothes
9:59:13 PM: Hutchings has returned to the holding area looking a bit flushed
10:00:14 PM: Levene and Hutchings discuss the hurt that can be caused by Vision/Nouse web comments
10:00:50 PM: Hutchings feels he should be taken seriously despite his dress sense
10:03:32 PM: URY interviewer could have pushed the cocaine use question further
10:04:10 PM: The web cam has gone off again, excuse me while i move the mouse
10:05:23 PM: Powell hasn’t bothered to remove his coat, suggests a lack of commitment i think
10:05:35 PM: back to the cocaine issue…
10:07:02 PM: Powell didn’t try to defend his coke use, probably wise
10:08:04 PM: Powell seems to promising things but not saying how he’d achieve them…bit flaky
10:08:32 PM: Yeah, exactly, “HOW, roberto?”
10:08:48 PM: Yeah but that was some one else’s campaign
10:09:15 PM: Doesn’t know who the head of careers is!
10:09:53 PM: URY members are taking photos of each other, coming to a facebook news feed near you soon
10:10:23 PM: Sports Day? does he mean Roses?
10:10:54 PM: Landlord review website seems like a good shout
10:12:44 PM: Roberto seems to be getting a bit of a grilling now, he’s faltering slightly but is directly answering the questions
10:13:37 PM: How does one describe themselves as “an election”?
10:13:53 PM: You’re welcome URY
10:14:27 PM: Levene is up next, last preidential candidate of the evening
10:14:40 PM: Ah i’ve gotta move the mouse again
10:15:41 PM: URY members off to get efes
10:15:55 PM: I want efes
10:16:29 PM: Levene fears sounding like a hippy
10:17:22 PM: I don’t know what a ugm is
10:19:45 PM: “Cantor Come Clean”- good use of alliteration
10:20:48 PM: Levene is discussing his ideas and policies pretty effortlessly, he seems to have a good grip of the situation
10:21:37 PM: panacea- awesome word, i don’t even know how to spell that
10:22:58 PM: Levene says he doesn’t necessarily think reducing yusu sabbatical roles is a bad idea- could there be a cull if he gets elected?
10:23:29 PM: Says tuition fees will change students’ lives FOREVER
10:24:17 PM: It’s gotten a bit lonely in the holding area now.
10:24:31 PM: No candidates currently being held
10:25:13 PM: “we always get every year”- speaks like he’s already being doing the job
10:27:09 PM: Last question for Levene now
10:27:28 PM: Levene is enthusiastic, ambitious, friendly and odd
10:27:44 PM: Bit of the Jackson 5 for you
10:33:24 PM: Rob, running for sports, has been escorted to the studio by ury sports editor, lots of sports banter is sure to follow
10:36:05 PM: hmmm URY chat to two York students, Charlotte and Camilla – You mean the Nouse editorial…
10:36:54 PM: the holding area (a vanbrugh classroom) now lies deserted. the coast is clear to steal chalk
10:38:52 PM: etheridge has arrived, first thing he did: write “etheridge 4 d + s” on the blackboard
10:39:42 PM: Sam Asfahani is doing a lot of pointing outside the door of the ury studio
10:43:42 PM: Newton seems very laid back
10:44:28 PM: Etheridge boasts to his interviewer he has been on this radio show many times
10:44:56 PM: He then asserts “you must have seen the campaign around campus”
10:45:22 PM: He has a James Bond style confidence about him
10:48:11 PM: When moving the mouse to make the screen light up again i accidentally pressed a button and now the news feed is lost…what do i do?
10:48:40 PM: A nice red haired young man is trying to sort it out
10:50:11 PM: Etheridge keeps referring to the “monster” at Vanbrugh- a big poster, or something?
10:50:42 PM: Sam Asfahani is up
10:52:12 PM: Would like to thank Samantha Cowley for her very nice comment. Keep commenting vision fans
10:53:53 PM: Sam Asfahani plays “a bit” for Langwith seconds, can’t really compete with Dave Hanson who claims to be capatain of “all the teams”
10:55:28 PM: Etheridge is sporting a University of York hoodie, shows his dedication without dividing with a college specific item of clothing
10:55:53 PM: *without dividing the vote
10:56:37 PM: Etheridge winces at his official candidate picture calling it a “terrible photo”
10:58:21 PM: CHOON!
10:59:44 PM: Etheridge handed his interviewer his empty cup without realising the bin is right next to him…awkward
11:00:20 PM: Etheridge is sat behind me, hope he’s not reading over my shoulder
11:06:45 PM: Etheridge rushes right in there, no hesitation whatsoever
11:06:58 PM: Is “whatsoever” one word?
11:08:24 PM: Etheridge obviously won’t personally build a new swimming pool
11:10:18 PM: everyone’s pushing the free water dispenser in the library idea. i for one do not enjoy getting water from the toilet taps
11:12:58 PM: etheridge has been out on many lovely viking raid nights – huzzah!
11:13:28 PM: Sam Daniels has arrived with his twin. DOUBLE TROUBLE
11:17:19 PM: Dan Walker is on now, but didn’t stop by the holding area first, how rude
11:18:44 PM: Anonymous onlooker thinks Dan Walker’s hair resmebles that of an anime character
11:19:20 PM: Vision people are getting pizza hut. Better than URYers slumming it with efes
11:21:21 PM: allegedly Charlie Leyland was “rat a**ed” at last year’s results night. allegedly though. ALLEGEDLY
11:24:04 PM: rowdy people in holding area drowning out candidate interview responses: how will i ever be able to make an informed decision??
11:24:51 PM: Katy Unsworth is here.
11:26:43 PM: Matt Bailey was the first to request water for his evening beverage, others have enjoyed tea, some have even opted for coffee.
11:27:11 PM: Sam Daniels is reading the podcast instructions
11:30:03 PM: sports editor has stormed in shoutng the odds about efes superior status to pizza hut
11:31:10 PM: he claims pizza hut only does pizzas but neglects to mention it offers both chicken wings and garlic bread as side orders
11:31:39 PM: Luke Malkin is here early, eager beaver
11:32:48 PM: people need to be quiet in the holding area
11:35:53 PM: Luke Malkin will be on just after 12:00
11:36:17 PM: Katy Unsworth is concerned to leave her stuff here as she goes to the studio
11:39:07 PM: Luke Malkin uses L’Oreal Elvive shampoo and conditioner 2 in 1
11:39:53 PM: He would usually shampoo and condition separately but tonight he didn’t have time
11:40:19 PM: I am going to be interviewed on air now
11:43:11 PM: sports editor has brought me an efes menu to prove its vast selection and hence its superiority to pizza hut
11:46:21 PM: Tim Ngwena, Sam Asfahani and Luke Malkin in the holding area
11:47:13 PM: Ngwena: “in fifteen minutes our fates will start to be decided”, a poignant hush descends
11:48:14 PM: Sam Asfahani is going to Gallery now
11:51:18 PM: Tim’s girlfriend lives with someone Ollie Julian, URYstation manager, knows
11:52:33 PM: Dan Walker has stopped by to apologise for being rude for not popping in earlier. i wasn’t being serious Dan
11:55:36 PM: Dan Walker is chalking an artistic impression of central hall on one of the blackboards. rolf harris stylee
11:56:57 PM: He has added “Dan Walker 4 D + S” next to it, apparently he also wants to be considered for the role, huh.
11:58:17 PM: I haven’t been able to go to the loo for 3 hours
12:01:19 AM: Katy’s name on the ballot is katherine, will people twig that the former is short for the latter?
12:01:59 AM: a new blogger is on their way..
12:05:23 AM: Luke Malkin on the air, he says he’s doing well and thanks the interviewer for his kind enquiry
12:06:19 AM: Wait, that’s the guy who hosted York Come Dancing? he’s really different in real life
12:06:39 AM: Still, no Bruce Forsyth
12:07:51 AM: keep your comments coming vision followers
12:10:01 AM: URY insider says gigs won’t sell in central hall as there’s no bar.
12:11:20 AM: a lot of political cynicism here in the holding area, “they all end up the same” says one jaded bystander
12:13:37 AM: Bye for now chums, kate
12:13:41 AM: Kate´s off, Jack (Knight) here now!
12:15:05 AM: apparently voting now open for YUSU elections…go go go go go!
12:17:23 AM: more blackboard electioneering shenanigans, now its “Rachel Hesselwood for Student Activities”.
12:17:44 AM: Scarlett on the radio now.
12:26:10 AM: System down for a minute there, we´re back now though
12:27:25 AM: Hesselwood worried she was going to be left in the holding room, but she´s on now.
12:29:30 AM: Beautiful art destroyed by URY guy. Dan Walker gutted.
12:31:26 AM: Think I have scared one of the prospective Women´s candidates by talking about her hair.
12:31:54 AM: Did Hesselwood just talk about teletubbies?
12:34:15 AM: All alone in the holding room, must have done something wrong.
12:35:01 AM: Loving all the candidates very careful criticisms of current officers. Lovely and tentative.
12:37:24 AM: I´ll be honest, nothing happening at all, need candidates to entertain me NOW!
12:41:01 AM: Some interesting ideas from the Women´s Officer candidates.
12:43:56 AM: Favourite quote so far – “There are a lot of men at York”.
12:45:07 AM: Very nice URY lady looking for NUS delegate candidates, can anyone find them?
12:50:15 AM: No sign of NUS delegates, so onto Environment and Ethics.
12:51:34 AM: Aren´t there already bike auctions? Also they are not the greatest bikes.
12:53:45 AM: Local beers in Courtyard. A policy I like.
12:55:02 AM: Nice interview with Clarke there, no-one´s spotted NUS delegates yet though…
12:56:14 AM: URY guys been cleaning up the holding room, thumbs up!
12:58:34 AM: Liking the music.
12:59:35 AM: More URY people cleaning up. Aren´t they a tidy bunch?
01:00:03 AM: Loving the “I can´t go to a toilet on campus” quote.
01:02:24 AM: Thought those LGBT candidates displayed a very good knowledge of the alphabet.
01:02:55 AM: Still laughing at Hansen.
01:03:30 AM: “Nice, friendly…but…I don´t know…”, not the best quote ever from Chris Young.
01:05:13 AM: Is Queen´s “Hammer to Fall” the most encouraging song to play as soon as election voting opens?
o1:07:36 AM: Yay, someone else in the holding room, Laura Cress is in the house.
01:09:45 AM: Liking this Enviornment and Ethics candidates. Love fairtrade, the cookies are great.
01:10:03 AM: Probably the first and only mistake of the night in that URY interview saying it was uncontested. Sometimes they´re a bit annoying good.
01:12:30 AM: Local booze in the Courtyard gets my vote everytime.
01:13:40 AM: Great set of interviews URY. Hope you all enjoyed the live blog. Off to help edit what I am sure will be a cracking edition of Vision, available across campus next Tuesday!

BLOG?
Brilliant!
I hope the banter is as good as the Nouse forums. Got my strongbow here.
Cracking stuff. Who is doing the blog?
Who is this Jason Rose fella, never heard of him before, does he do something to do with YUSU?
Maybe it’s obvious, but it’s worth pointing out the need to refresh.
Just tuned in, thought Matt Bailey made a very good impression, but I’d not really heard of him before. Its a shame that competent candidates with good policies don’t really have a chance unless they are popular and a ‘campus celebrity’
I don’t think his publicity has been that great. I’ve only seen one poster anywhere on campus of his.
Is this blog going all the way through until 1.30, you will be needing lots of free tea Angus.
Loving URY’s coverage, loved the feature explaining the voting system, I wonder if they have just got themselves a new sound effects kit?
Hoping Vision and URY will be linking up like this again soon.
nice to see a live blog from vision, keep up the good work guys. can’t wait till tuesday! :)
Matt Bailey’s posters are all over Derwent.
Thought his URY interview was slightly painful.
@Zed, really? I thought he sounded like he had clear, common sense policies.
Definitely came across better than Phil and Helen are doing, “free hugs” and “being able to listen” are their only policies i could pick out.
@Anon: His policies may be common sense, but to be fair, most of the candidates proposed clear and common-sense policies. His delivery let him down as he seemed to be struggle a bit.
Haha, Phil couldn’t even remember the name of the event that ‘taught him so much’. Reliable, much?
of the LGBT candidates Tom and Nell definitely seem to have more experience and were a lot more composed and confident.
Definitely think that Tom and Nell are the better LGBT candidates. I’m sure they’d hug people if they asked!
‘Very lively’, lucky boy Angus. Seems like someone is getting more than fee tea?
Pink bear outfit? How did I miss this?
Whey, ‘very lively’, ey Angus. Seems like someone was getting more than just free tea.
Yeah, I felt a bit sorry for phil and Helen, they seemed a little out of their depth, but very impressed with Tom and Nell.
ooooh, the interviewer trying to get all Paxman on Bo the welfare bear.
This interview is bloody good… its making me skirm a little bit because Bo seems quite a bit out of her depth.
Blatantly has issues with the Bear!
Bo the welfare bear is doing well though.
“WHAT HAVE YOU ACTUALLY DONE?” , I hope this interviewer will be keeping up this attitude throughout the interviews. Loving seeing the candidates squirm.
Embarrassing, Bo not able to stretch to three words to describe herself.
Well looking at the York Vision poll the other day in the URY office Frecks said that according to their poll the presidency was -start quote- “in the bag” -end quote-
Peter Warner-Medley finished well, sounded a bit aloof and patronising to start but had a better attitude than Bo.
Freckleton and that swimming pool, lol. He was owned by Tim on Thursday.
Frecks swimming pool policy is a joke. There is a £2million funding gap, no amount of ‘talking to the right people’ will fill that gap Frecks.
‘The papers need to know what the papers can and can’t write’ — there’s the problem right there. They should be able to write what they want.
“Well… It’s… It’s… It’s… It’s going to be tough.”
Freckleton’s a maestro.
The reason The Yorker don’t get “flagged up” on welfare issues is because YUSU has no power to censure them over welfare issues.
I don’t think the Yorker should really be an example to follow.
Just got absolutely owned by that question about YUM.
Accusing the newspapers of being controversial and stepping over the line but then not being able to name one example. Ridiculous statement.
Exactly, Nick. Frecks’ example is completely useless and irrelevant.
Seriously, Frecks? ‘I’m the Outsider’ who’s big on cash machines and caring about issues. Waheyyy.
Loving David Hansen. I wish I was 7 million years old.
I agree that I possibly didn’t do my policies much justice… it’s my first time at doing any real press contact, and that was my first radio interview.
@Scott, lots of posters went up on Tuesday / Wednesday but a lot were taken down by cleaners on Thursday morning. I have been concentrating on my studies, and my duty as a Course Rep, for the last 3 days to finish my final year project & write the student APR for Chemistry so haven’t been able to get out and about. Hopefully I will be able to get out and about again tomorrow!
Maybe I just don’t get it, but I find Hanson pretty tedious and unfunny.
Hansen is the MAN!
Loving Hansen’s interview. An old fool, yet a mystifying fool! Can’t wait for the Andromeda move! Why not move to Gallifrey next?
Also I interviewed Matt and I think you did a good job, especially since it was your first radio interview, your points were still put across very well.
Fair play, this interview with Hansen is really funny.
What Hansen states becomes retroactively correct.
In this vein, I’m liking his endorsements.
Kate who?
I am a big fan of Tim’s student reward card policy.
Seems to have a lot of potential, I hope students would get on board with it.
This interviewer has EXACTLY the same voice as Daniel Kitson, the comedian. Youtube him. As for President, Freckleton’s view on the media is abysmal. Lost a lot of Vision and Nouse votes there methinks.
Tim’s voice is putting me to sleep. Do like the sound of his policies though.
Hey Kate,
I agree, i could listen to Tim’s voice all night.
Rather you than me locked in a ‘holding area’ with Levene.
*You know*
Sounds like Oli had a bad experience at his Freshers ball.
“A rather chilly greeting between levene and powell”
Umm, I wonder who would win in a fight between Levene and Powell.
Levene probably has a weight advantage but I think Powell would have the greater stamina.
Yey, my comment just got read out on air.
I think the presenter might not have read it before he recited it though.
Oh dear.
I did not know about the Roberto cocaine thing.
Should it really matter though, we are all mature people here and lots of people dabble with drugs. I don’t think it would adversely effect his performance, that he tried it once in the past?
Curious. Powell seemed to be in good health a few hours ago.
Love how he’s being pressed on his coke use… :D
where can we watch this live?
Crash and burn, Powell, crash and burn.
love the landlord review website me and my housemates were put off a house by a dodgy landlord and it would’ve been great to know if that was a genuine problem from previous tennents
Sports day is a college event and he was discussing colleges so no I do not think he meant Roses.
I bet Roberto is a bit pissed off the cocaine thing got out.
Must have been a little bit too loose lipped about it in the past, either that or has some friends who like to gossip.
Shame that he hadn’t thought of more concrete ideas about how to strengthen college spirit etc.
His more clear policies sounds quite good.
Levene seems to be a strong activist, but somehow I doubt he will excel as President.
Also, ‘Cantor Come Clean’? :O
have any of the other candidates been asked about opinions and plans for possible tuition fees raises
p.s. levene says ‘absolutely’ quite a lot
Wow, Levene loves comments, well here goes.
Levene seems pretty big on campaigning but he is campaigning about something that hasn’t even happened yet. Apart from going on and on about protesting against tuition fee rises he doesn’t seem to have any ideas about improving day to day student life. Disappointing.
Levene’s absolutely shining here.
Quite a turn for the better.
Powell seemed to have good ideas on the landlord review website and he does actually respond with direct answers which is nice.
Shame his colleges bit wasn’t a bit clearer though.
P.S He did talk at our JCRC meeting earlier and did seem to be losing his voice…
Like 80% sure Levene is well in there with that Emily bird :)
p.s. LOVING the music team URY
If Levene is all about campaiging why isn’t he just staying another year and running for campaigns officer?
wow newton based his criticism of sam’s policies on a google search of 3g pitch. clearly in depth research.
Yay Vision, cracking Blog. At last a bit of opinion from the media societies. You can be fair whilst also being critical. Keep it up URY.
Also what on earth’s a 3g pitch?
some kind of all weather artificial football pitch i think, not sure how it’s different from astro…
yay good mention from sam for college sport and rugby, he’s interviewing really well.
Well you know how 3G phones are the third generation of phones and so better than all the others.
A 3G pitch is just a progression in technology of astroturf. Its more like real grass and a more realistic surface to play on.
@ Etheridge
Good job it was an empty cup, not an empty promise that he handed the interviewer…..
Rob may not interview as brilliantly as Sam, but Rob’s policies are about 1000 times more achievable. Don’t be fooled by Sam’s big claims. A 3G pitch will not happen. Rob can fulfill his policies. Vote Newton’s Way.
If people want to keep track of what YUSU officers are doing, can’t they already read the progress updates on the YUSU blog? It *is* patronising.
(Are red-green colourblind people going to be able to use this system?)
Pretty dissapointed that Vision missed the first few candidates! Poor show.
It does not take 25 minutes to get the libraray from Halifax…takes about 15 minutes.
@ Daniel Robert Clifford Hales
“levene says ‘absolutely’ quite a lot”
Absolutely!
@ Nik
“he is campaigning about something that hasn’t even happened yet”
I think on such a huge issue, this is the only way if we even have a hope of winning – waiting until it has already happened will mean we are too late. We need to be lobbying MPs now, we need to be putting pressure on Cantor now.
“he doesn’t seem to have any ideas about improving day to day student life”
I’m sorry if it came across that way. As I mentioned when discussing the library, I think when the Uni fails students – take the lack of any facilities on Hes East, for example – it is because they don’t respect the student body, or take us seriously. I think that needs to change, and I think a campaigning Union is part of that.
@ JCRC Member
“If Levene is all about campaiging why isn’t he just staying another year and running for campaigns officer?”
Well, a few reasons. Campaigns Officer isn’t a sabbatical position so you have to be a student when you’re doing it, and I’m graduating this year. President actually is meant to have ultimate responsibility for campaigning – something I worry has been neglected a bit the last couple of years – especially on big issues that require co-ordination with the University (which the President has much more contact with than Campaigns Officer) and the NUS (which Campaigns Officer has pretty much zero contact with). At the same time, campaigning is closely tied up with communications and participation issues, which is also the President’s remit.
Anyway, I’ll stop going on now. If you’d like some more info, check my Facebook group (David Levene for President), or if you’ve got a question about any of my policies email me at [email protected]. And remember, voting opens in an hour!
LOL: “10:00:50 PM: Hutchings feels he should be taken seriously despite his dress sense”….
ha you can’t make your complaint about getting a viking raid shirt that’s to big one of your policies chris… man up
I honestly think it is disgusting the way the media have been reporting the election. An election should come down to how good the candidates are not how clued up they are with the media. The chairing of Husting geared to favourite candiates and these interviews, some candidates are basically getting a free ride while others have to defend personal actions instead of being able to say policy. I haven’t seen it with Vision but the rest in general is shocking, and everyone just ignores it. That is why only people that get in early can eventually be sabs as they have rubbed everyone up and don’t have to fight against the bias of the media to get their ideas across.
@mickey mouse (henry james foy) very apt that you posted as this since you are the biggest joke on campus!
dan your mobile college bars are a great idea but might undermine individual college spirit as they will be extensions of the union bar, the courtyard is very much seen as the YUSU bar not languith. could you try to individualise the mobile bars a bit so they would feel more relatable for the colleges?
*erm erm*
Sam: possibly the longest ‘three words’ yet :)
how long does this go on for?
Impressed with this blog by the way. Vision’s most commented-on thing on the website!! Good work chaps.
You can now officially vote at http://www.yusu.org/vote
Have they given Nick Scarlett helium?
Taking time off Vision lay-up Jack?
I wonder if Rhianna is feeling uncomfortable with Nick so far up her bum?
Also, why do the presenters sound like cheesy drivetime DJs?
Rachel doing the job of Student Activities before she’s even gotten it. Cracking candidate.
The article seems to have changed it’s name to “t”.
Apologies for that technical slip up, I’m unused to working on Norwegian Mac
I’m ill. Can Will Bennet come and read me a husky bedtime story and tuck me in please?
Love xxx
which candidates are left to be interviewed?
Just listened to Matt Bailey’s URY interview – the interviewer just showed incredible bias by suggesting that only two of the other candidates (Ben and Jason) were strong candidates for the role. Elanin didn’t get a mention once. Nothing was said about why these two were more worthy of mention – their names were just thrown out there. There are four people in this race and quite frankly, Elanin is as passionate and capable as any of the others. She might not have direct experience of academic committees but no-one can reasonably say she is a weak or un-qualified candidate.
Saying something like that so close to voting opening runs massive risk of influencing voters. Leave the electioneering to the candidates, please.
Major bias, URY.
Us YSTVers got Dominos. And 50% off and all!
Woop woop! After being online for only half a year, Vision has produced York University Media’s 7th most commented-on thing EVER!!! Cracking stuff.

“Dan your mobile college bars are a great idea but might undermine individual college spirit as they will be extensions of the union bar, the courtyard is very much seen as the YUSU bar not languith. could you try to individualise the mobile bars a bit so they would feel more relatable for the colleges?”
Ok, so the idea would be that the mobile bar would be rolled into the college’s space to provide a service whenever required. Courtyard staff would run it (maybe opening up some new jobs for students in need of money?) and the college’s would then have free reign to run events with the bar present.
The Bar units themselves are pretty bland grey plastic, so they’d obviously need covering with something? Perhaps a massive college designed bar cloth?
Hope that’s answered your question, and cheers for the thought! :D …
Dan
great to see URY and Vision doing this together. Seems to have worked really really impressively. Way to go guys!
Great job vision, love this blog! Beats the cliquey crap you get on Nouse…
great blog guys. just read it after an sng session. though i may wait till the morning before i act on the contents of the blog and cast my vote.
Listened and kept up with the blog all last night- you guys did an awesome job. Good to see fairer, less partisan output than Nouse, giving a clearer picture to students who might not be aware of the close links between Nouse editorial and some candidates. Keep up the good work!
Great blog guys! The Vision website keeps getting better and better. x
Enjoyed reading the blog, great job, though I don’t think I’ll ever understand why you only measure your successes in relation to Nouse. If you think you’re better than them (undeniable in this case, as Nouse didn’t even do a blog of the radio show) why feel need to reference them all the time!? Kelly Holt in particular seems to have a fetish for it.
Just listened to Dave Hansen on the URY player and lol-ed, rofl-ed, and lmao-ed.
He speaks sense.
@Proud, just to let you know that Nouse did not do a live blog of the URY show as election coverage was decided between Nouse and Vision, that Vision would have radio content and Nouse video for the duration of elections. This is also why Vision didn’t blog the Presidential Debate. Good job Vision, thought it was a great blog.
Kudos, Charlotte!
Charlotte, that’s great, but you miss the point of my comment. I was highlighting Vision’s constant need to compare themselves to Nouse, not their exclusivity in this blog. I read and enjoy both, but it seems Vision have something of an inferiority complex at the moment.
I wouldn’t say that Vision has an inferiority complex. I think both papers have a healthy element of competition that makes them work harder and produce better work to the benefit of both of us. I also think that this consistent element of competition also makes University of York media some of the best in the country.
I think Nouse likes to think Vision has an inferiority complex, and furthermore I think it is Nouse that as somewhat of an arrogance issue. I point to the recent story regarding the potential closure of some nightclubs in York – it was an article that suggested Nouse had chased the management of said clubs as if they were the national press, and it was an article that was based upon falling share prices, oh and an ‘anonymous source close to the management’. Very dailymailesque…
Vision is definitely the better paper, and has provided an unbiased critique of the presidential election, which is more that can be said for Nouse..
Jack you are right, all things said, the University of York media is very strong. Great work on the blog, entertaining and a great read!
Oh I’m feeling so vulnerable at the moment, I just can’t take all this talk of Nouse! Yesterday I waved at a bus to stop and it just went right by me, I’m sure its because the bus driver liked Nouse more than Vision, and not because I wasn’t at a bus stop! Also, did you notice that Nouse comes further up alphabetically than Vision?! WE CAN NEVER WIN *sob*!
@Proud, sorry, just want to clarify that I did understand what you were saying, I just wanted to take the opportunity to explain why Nouse haven’t been covering certain things – if we could we would!
Erm guys, it’s not all about Nouse and Vision you know. The Lemon Press currently has a Live Blog on the go, if you’re interested.
